Strike Industries SMC Alpha V2: A Modular PDW Chassis System
In today’s crowded PCC and PDW market, consumers demand setups that are smaller, lighter, and more modular. Strike Industries has stepped up with a chassis system built around SIG P320 (I too am hoping for an RXM version soon) platform in the SMC Alpha V2, giving users relatively unprecedented the freedom to choose their optic, brace, stock, light, laser, and more, all at a relatively competitive price.
Build & First Impressions
The most striking element of the Alpha V2 is its all-aluminum construction. This makes it far more rigid than both the earlier Bravo chassis and many polymer-based PDW chassis systems on the market. With a few properly torqued screws and some Loctite, you end up with a compact, bag-friendly PDW that actually feels like a gun and not a toy like a lot of other weapon systems in this class.
Weight & Price
Right out of the box (minus optic, slide, barrel, FCU, brace, or stock), the chassis weighs 16 ounces. While not feather-light, the weight is reasonable given the extensive lightening cuts. To go lighter would require exotic metals like titanium or magnesium alloys — which would dramatically increase cost.
At $549 (before sourcing your P320 donor), this kit isn’t bargain-bin cheap, but it comes with a major advantage: you’re not locked into a preset build. You choose your own accessories and setup to fit your own unique specifications.
Optic Mounting Flexibility
The optic mount is where the Alpha V2 shines. Strike Industries employs a universal mounting system similar to the Springfield Armory Echelon’s VIS system. This allows you to mount almost any pistol red dot without adapter plates or worrying about footprint compatibility.
It achieves this with a combination of removable recoil lugs and pre-drilled holes for multiple optic standards. While an optic-specific cut will still be the most durable, this system is a far more consumer-friendly solution in today’s diverse pistol-dot market.
Mounting Points & Modularity
The Alpha V2 comes equipped with:
-1913 rear plate for attaching braces or stocks (now the go-to industry standard for non-AR PDWs)
-QD sling cups on both sides for single-point sling mounting
-1913 front rail for lights or lasers
Strike also has a blast shield available for the SMC. This is a must-have if you value your fingers with the added benefit of freeing up space for both a spare mag holder and a weapon-mounted light.
The side charging handle is another standout feature, replacing the slide’s back plate. It’s robust, but be aware it reciprocates with the slide — keep your thumb clear to avoid a painful reminder.
Full Reconfigurability
The SMC Alpha V2 is entirely reconfigurable. Once you drop in your FCU, slide, and barrel, you can run it:
-Stripped down to a metal-framed P320
-Fully built into a night-vision-ready PDW
-Or anywhere in between
While not every shooter will need that level of flexibility, it’s refreshing to see a product that puts the control in the end user’s hands rather than forcing a fixed configuration requiring some Dremel time to make a modification.
Final Thoughts
Though I would have preferred it being built around the RXM platform, The Strike Industries SMC Alpha V2 is a solid, well-built, and highly adaptable PDW chassis. With its rigid aluminum frame, universal optic mounting, and industry-standard attachment points (minus some MLOK slots), it offers both durability and full customization potential.
