Well, bought a house and some land in Chapman and starting to settle in.
Hope to have a 100 yard rifle/pistol range up in a couple weeks. 500 yard rifle range
a lil bit later.

Bit of a change from both Maine and Virginia, but I like the small town life. Just having no trees is kind of weird....need to plant me some evergreens and a pine of two...

So, hopefully will have my range up and running soon!

best
David M. Fortier

Welcome to Kansas! If you ever get a chance, try and make one of the KDSC shoots! We are a small group that try to promote safe gun ownership in Kansas! Our informal competitions run COF's and speed steel reactive shooting both pistol and carbine ! Lots of fun!

Welcome!  I am just southeast of you in Marion County.  I too have some land and have put up a small under 200 yard range.  I would interested in how you are building your 500 yard range as I would be interested in putting something like that on my 80 acres (1/4mi x 1/2mi plot).

Nice, I just moved out here myself. Kind of culture shock from Dallas, but it's not too bad.

Welcome to Kansas. If you're into High Power Rifle, check out www.ckgc.org for our HP schedule. Most matches are XTC, with slow prone at 600 yards. Bring your best wind reading skills. We're about 2 hours away from you. Another place, again about 2 hours away, is the Mill Creek club at DeSoto, with a 500 yard line for slow prone. Nice range and a little more wind friendly. State and Regional Matches, as well as EIC, are held at these 2 ranges.

As far as trees, check out the extension service, probably from Kansas State, about what to plant. Pines in south central Kansas are being killed by pine wilt, I think. Of course, there's the ever present cottonwoods; hope you don't have allergies.

Enjoy the Flint Hills, dude. Kansas will grow on you after awhile.
