Anytime these threads come up, and some word of mouth from gun stores as well, Danny's Gun Repair on Bishops Ln seems to be the place to go.

Maybe when Danny was alive, but I wouldn't take my gun there any longer.

Why would you say that?  I have used Scott many times and right now he is Duracoating a Glock for me.  I have always been very happy with his work.

There are not many decent gunsmiths available in this area, and that's a fact. There are some, but you really have to know who to talk to to get the straight skinny on them. The guys at Bishops' Ln.(working out of Bluegrass Indoor Range, I believe), CW Shooters (Claude Wright), a guy named Dean Francisco (GunDoc on the local gun board, does great Glock work), and maybe one or two others are the only ones I have heard of that are worthwhile. There may be others, but those I listed are the only one I know of for certain are worthwhile.

Lotus Gun Works has recently opened and I have heard that they may have a smith working there, but that is unconfirmed as of now.

With some of these guys around here, you pays you money and you takes you chances.

I had a customer bring in two Glocks that had problems and sent him back to my gunsmith.  Upon inspection, he discovered a few parts where installed incorrectly.  When asked who had taken the gun apart, the reply was that they had just had a trigger job done at Danny's (Scott's).  That's a simple job for any gunsmith.  The customer was so freaked out that he now brings even brand new guns to be inspected before firing.

I am sure your customer had a reason to be concerned, but he could have taken them back to Scott so he could have fixed the problem.  Scott has a bullet trap and could have fired it for function.  I have had many things worked on by Scott with ZERO issues.  I can't speak to your problem, but it seems odd that Scott would have not gotten the chance to fix the problem.  Like you mentioned they are not that hard to work on and it sounds like an easy fix.

I take it you work at Bluegrass so I am sure you get to here all kinds of stories....  Some similar to the ones that were told by an "former" Navy Seal that had been shot twice in combat that use to work behind the counter.

I do, but I'm not sure to whom you are referring.  I've only been involved there for about 2 years, so maybe this person was before my time.  I know a SEAL that worked there, but he never told customers about his service.  I understand there have been some real winners that worked there and the ownership group is trying to not have a repeat of that era.

I've heard some great "stories", to be sure.  I love reading the gun store threads because the crap espoused by some people behind the counter is nothing compared to what people in front of the counter tell us.   Often times there's no way to correct/disagree with them without sounding like an ass, so I just try to be polite and agree with everything they say.  "Uh huh...yeah...oh really?"  That kind of thing.

I'd send it out of state, before I'd set foot in FSC.  As I said earlier,
I don't care how good of work Gary does...the guy is a rip off
artist.

Scott and Danny's Gun Repair has always done my work, I have never had any reason to go anywhere else.  But I have never had a 1911.  By far his best work is from refinishing.

I have noticed he has been a little high on some people. He usually takes care of me of a decent price, but maybe because i'm military or something. I dunno, but one things for certain the guy is good and his work is guaranteed.

So of the shops listed in this thread so far, are any capable of and competent enough to be trusted to re-profile an AR barrel??

I've got a 20" HBAR that I'd like turned down to an A1 lightweight profile.

I hate to run some one down but scott at Dannys F*** up a 1911 of mine. He kept it 8 months I also heard him run Fire arms service center down several times when I was in there checking on My gun then sent it to them to get it fixed, Scott did not charge me for anything but parts and offerd to refinish it for for free but I was sick with the whole deal it was still a mess no fault of Gary Romans they done the best they could with what was left.I have used Greg at Buds several times he is the best I know on a 1911. I would have taken it to Him from the start but he don't have a mill. He later told me he could have sent it out and had it done guess I should have asked,
