Need some help with some marks in the rifling at the muzzle of my new shillen barrel. It is a 6.5 mm blank that i had chambered locally to 6.5-06 it is shooting pretty flaky and it is like a copper mine in it after only a few shots. at the muzzle it looks like chatter marks or it has the look of a file.

I broke the barrel in with 10 shots cleaning after each shot then another 20 rounds cleaning every 2 shots.  it was at 1.5-2" groups. then ran some bullets with lapping compound 220,320,600 shot 5 and cleaned on each. it still takes forever to clean, groups have gotten a little better but it takes forever to get the copper out of it.

I think this is my issue what say anyone else? is there a remedy? I don't have a bore scope to see how far back it goes. It is a shillen barrel will they stand behind it?

Email them these pictures and see what they say. I would think they would stand behind their work.

Those are reamer rings from the bore reamer used prior to rifling. Fairly common. Usually button rifling flattens them out and they are little more than "shadows", if you will. If they're too deep then the rifling wont swage them out and they will do as you note, foul. Honing may help, again depends how deep they are. If too deep then there is no fix. Shillen is a good company and I'm sure they will stand behind it.

You may have screwed yourself with the bullet lapping BS.
You should send them the images anyway, this doesn't look like a normal Shilen barrel.

I never understood why one would willfully run abrasive compounds(outside of truly lapping a bore) through a barrel.

Looks like chatter marks from running the cutter to fast honestly.

Savage barrels are often like this and it poses no problems with accuracy that ive seen
