Since I'll need one for my CQC.
Not really a scopey guy but interested in what you all are using.

That's tough. Everyone has personal preferences when it comes to reticles, scope length, fixed or variable, tube size. What are you're preferences?

I went with a Vortex PST 1-4 scope with Warne RAMP mount for my Aug A3. I didn't see the need for more magnification than 4x for this platform. The Warne mount is also nice since the thumbscrews are on the right side so you don't have to worry about scraping off your knuckles. In the end, as previously mentioned, it all comes down to preference and intended use.

I hope this helps: I bought a bushy car15 and it came w/an armson oeg scope(?). I asked how much w/o scope but a guy behind me said he'd take the scope I figured it must be good so I kept it and love it.

I have 3x9s on an m1a and flattop ar and primary arms oeg type on a 16" stag.

I don't see any long range sniping w/the Aug; maybe I should save up for NV? I can always recalibrate the PA for the aug for initial firing.

NIce choice on a rifle.  I just sold my ACR to by a CQC so I am looking into optics as well.  The CQC is 1/4" higher than the standard rail.  I am concerned about the height of some of these scopes.  I am going to try several optics that I have on my other rifles to get an idea of the correct height, but this looks like a good choice.  3X which should be fine.

Personally, I wouldn't put a $180 scope on a $2200 rifle, but that's just me. Nothing against Primary Arms- I'm putting one of their Micro Dots on my girlfriend's .22 AR and it's great for that purpose. You should check the EE for a used scope- I've gotten some amazing deals there.

Furyataurus, what does that scope you're showing off run?

I'm going to have to put a PART on my CQC just to try it but I can't afford much experimentation.
I'm thinking really hard about calling Pete for one of his B/O'd Steyr scopes! I dontthink that would be money wasted.

Thanks for all the ideas!

How would you compare yours to the military scope Pete is offering? His is cheaper and it's designed for the rifle.

Texasyid, I found this for $929 shipped. October special but may be carried on. It looks to be worth the additional couple $100 for a name I recognize and free shipping and better magnification.

I'm guessing your talking about the 1.5x scopes with the rails all over em. Fury's scope is 1-4x and fiber optic / tritium lit.  So his has more versatility and has a lit reticle the 1.5 doesn't unless they changed it recently. The 1.5 looks pretty but at the end of the day it's like paying for a detachable rail covered version of the scope from the original a1's while it was ground breaking at the time and still not bad now I think you can find better. When I say better I mean whatever kind of optic you personally favor be it red dot, fixed magnification, or a variable like fury's baby.

At this point I'm aiming(haha)for the TA33 texasyid recommended.
I've yearned for one before but thought it was dumb to have a scope worth a lot more than my rifle.

Go with the TA-33G-H.  It's fast, accurate, and the green is, IMO, much superior to red or amber.

Hell ya I do!!!! That's the reason I made the move on my own MSAR!

ETA: I will likely pick one up (the picture just doesn't do that reticle justice).  Though I really loved how the green reticle popped out, I will likely pick up a red one so that I keep my eyes looking for a red 'dot' like my T1's...and I will likely send my barrel to ratworx to have them install an AAC 51T flash hider.....shouldn't show your set up to others because they will copy it to the "T"!!!

I do like those receiver mounts rather the rail systems but would that set up really be better than an E4 rail with a Larue mount?  I love Larue and I have been happy thus far.

Their link makes the optic look a little, high. Link to their pictures with the same optic in reference

ETA: Their description says that it puts the optic at the height of the factory E4 optic...so it should be really great....too bad there aren't too many reviews on them but I do think I'll go this route....

I bought the CQC(high rail version)so it will be ready to go.

Question: do I save $100 and buy a used scope or buy nice, not twice?

Buy new...unless you know the previous owner and the optic comes with a registration card that hasn't been sent in.

I have the TA-33 on a CQC and it is perfect.  If you want a different mount from the one that comes with it, consider the Trijicon mount that's made by Bobro...it makes every other mount look second rate and it won't harm your rail.

I'm not the best person to describe the Manticore Arms Talon mount. I don't own an MSAR nor do I own a Talon mount, but...

The mount was initially designed for the MSAR. Using the mount replaces the rail that is bolted to the receiver on the MSAR.

Hopefully Steyr AUG owners get lucky enough that Sven stops drinking long island iced teas in his lounge chair and instead turns on his machines...

This is what is on mine, using an ADM mount. I'll post pics later. My CQC is now sitting in a Tan MSAR E-4 stock too, latest generation. Sweet setup. Just need to order the brass deflector.

There's a possibility I might be getting a new generation E4 stock shortly as well.  There are some things I would like to see on a stock and so far neither Steyr's nor MSAR's have really hit the mark.  I want to see molded in brass deflectors and ambidextrous bolt releases.  I have an idea for a strong hand magazine release (and possibly a bolt release as well) but until I win the lottery they'll be nothing more than sketches.

So far I have tried these various scopes on my MSAR rifles: (included is MY opinion which may not suit you......) Some of these scopes are pretty pricey - but you get what you pay for in MOST cases ( a REAL exception are the Weaver scopes - WAY big-bang for the buck).

Factory STG-556 optic - too low of a cheek weld for me

Factory E4 optic - good cheek weld and works well

ACOG TA33H-G / TA11H-G / TA11E-G / TA31ECOS / TA31DOC - listed in order of preference ( EVERYONE should own at least (1) ACOG )

Weaver Classic Extreme 1.5-4.5x24t - excellent scope for the money

Weaver Super Slam 1.5-6x24 - excellent scope for the money

Nightforce NXS 1-4x24 FC-2 - nice but nothing extraordinary (save for the FC-2 reticle)

Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x24 FC-2 - much nicer to have that extra magnification and it REALLY works well with the FC-2 - its virtue is its compact size.

Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x24 NP-1 - all the best things as listed above but, to be honest it hasn't been mounted yet so I can't say if i like the reticle or not.

Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x32 NP-R2 - pretty nice EXCEPT the larger bell on the objective is a bit big for such a compact rifle.

Eotech EXPS3-2 with Aimpoint 3x on LaRue FTS - this is still about my favorite setup. It will handle just about any situation from up close to reach out and touch someone. And I really like the 1MOA center dot for "precision " (i.e.target) shooting.

I have used both factory rails ( STG and E4 height) and for ACOGs I like the STG rail - for a variable with a 1-piece mount I like the E4 rail. BUT right now my (2) Nightforce scopes are sitting in the Manticore TALON mounts.  A rail PLUS a mount PLUS  a scope starts adding weight - which is why I JUST bought another factory E4 optic. Its lightweight, has good reflex acquisition and actually has pretty damn good glass. If I were in ANY situation where I had to travel far in a hurry  and carry some stuff, the rifle I'm going to grab is the one wearing the factory optic - and I DO workout regularly. Probably wont be winning any long-distance shooting matches with it ( I've got an E4 w/18.5-inch heavy barrel with a NXS on for that)  - BUT I'm going to be able to go farther / faster with less weight and conserve energy. Also you have a scope with built-in mount for a few hundred bucks which I think is a GOOD deal.........

I can elaborate more on the pros / cons of what I've used if you want to IM me. Seems to me Tomac had a really good deal here on a Talon mount and scope for sale......

My .02 cents.........

I've had my primary arms compact scope on my E4 for going on 5 months and its holding up well. In fact I dropped it in the mud the other night when I got my jeep stuck and used my pressure washer to clean the gun off. Its been riding around between my seat and tub while retaining its zero.
