Just got the BOLO today that SF is dropping the M1.
 We had a large LE order we just had to give the bad news to. The V1 will be the official replacement for now.
I've always liked this little IR light and always have one either on my helmet or in my pocket. I guess the V1 will now be it. I did nab a few off our shelves to keep and we only have a few left!

Well that makes perfect sense, take one of the best products made and discontinue it.

I hear ya MM. Last year when some Surefire dudes were here showing me the new V1 and X400 IR-V they thought the M1 would end in about a year. (They were correct, only off by 4 months or so). Of course little ol' me protested as the M1 has always been a SOLID sales performer for good reason. Let's hope for a M1 replacement someday.

that stinks, I love my M1
for me it was that just right kinda IR light, stronger than the built in IR from a pvs14 but not as strong as a weapon light. Works perfect on my helmet. |

I've never used the V1. How does the IR light of the V1 compare to the M1? Is the V1 not an adequate replacement - although much more expensive...

An adequate replacement...yes but more expensive as you mentioned. Bout true effective range of 150 yards, vs. the M1's 75 yards true effective. Not as clean as a beam of course vs. the M1 which was perfect. Here's some pics I did late last year when I went out and did a comparison. I will say this for the V1, it does have some impressive spill.

M1 is a great light I've had mine for probably eight or nine years. It's the perfect blend of compactness and brightness for short range looking around. It's a tough little booger too.
