Ok so what is the difference between shooters cut and swimmer cut plates?? They look about the same to me.........also will they fit in a mayflower APC?

Was thinking that maybe these plates would be a little better in PCs as far as buttstock placement on the shoulders?  Thoughts?

Also does anyone sell a lightweight level IV shooters/swimmers cut plate?    I have seen some lightweight level III plates if using them in conjunction with soft armor does it bump rating to level IV?

Swimmers are typically offer a more extreme cut that extends further down the side of the plate rather than a 45* cut off the corner.

They will fit in an APC (as long as they are the correct size) but you may not like the fit:  the Mayflower is a bit more rounded in the upper corners so a shooter/swimmer will leave an empty space which tends to "dog ear".  Better IMO/E to get a carrier that fit's the appropriate plate.

Don't know on the lightweights, but the plate will say LEVEL III/IV In Conjunction.

thanks for reply......ok just took a peek on mayflowers website and under the APC description I found this:

The plate pockets are sized to accommodate stand alone or in-conjunction with BALCs/ESAPI or Swimmer cut plates.

so basically swimmers/shooters cut plates are the same style angle?  are they basically one in the same?

Is anyone running swimmers/shooters cut plates in an APC or any other PC for that matter?  how do you like them if you can compare to a SAPI/ESAPI plate as far as buttstock to shoulder

Like I said, the shooters/swimmers won't fill the upper corners of the carrier as much as an E/SAPI will and the way it looks might bother you, but functionally, they'll fit.

E/SAPIs basically have a 45* or so symmetrical clip.  Shooters take a slightly longer cut down the side and swimmers take even more (with that cut sometimes ending at the middle of the plate).  Technically, shooters and swimmers are different, but when you add in variation among different makers, the distinction can blur.

IME you're not going to get the stock completely off of the plate with any cut.

Good info........yea wasn't expecting to be completely off the plate with rear stock.......would love to see what kind of difference it does make though

I run swimmers cut plates in an LBT lo pro plate carrier....can shoulder the rifle with no issues.

With anything, you have to do a risk/reward analysis....are you a gunslinger and need to have the range of motion that the swimmers cut gives you while sacrificing some coverage?

or

Are you more static and want the extra coverage a standard SAPI/ESAPI cut provides?

EDITED TO ADD:

LBT makes the a lo pro carrier specifically for the swimmer cut...have to call to ensure you get this version.

I have medium HighCom shooters cut plates in my APC. They work great but don't completely fill the plate pocket. With the retention strap they sit where they need to be. My friends large HighCom shooters cut also fit and fill the pocket very well
