A couple of questions you guys and gals...
Proper way to store body armor is flat, right?
Can I store my level IIIA vest with my curved level III/IV plates in it or do I need to slide the plates out and store them seperately?  (I don't want to create creases where the plates rest on the IIIA vest.)  Can I keep my molle pouches on the vest as well?
Thanks!
Mighty

Plates out and vest laid flat is what I do.

This:

Get some wood and build you a nice stand for your armor.  I don't leave the plates in when hanging it like this, but I do leave Molle pouches and ammo shingles on.

but I thought hanging soft armor was detrimental to the fabric? or is that just with concealable vests?

I know a number of folks that store their external vests this way.  No harm done that I am aware of.

I think I'd be concerned about the shoulder fabric of the carrier possibly if storing the vest for a really long time with a full battle load of magazines and other trash on it giving it a heavy weight.  Like I said I store mine in this fashion with IFAK, shingles, and other pouches, just no filled magazines.

Well to say that no harm is done is not entirely true.  The way kevlar works, is by the tightness of the fibers in the weave.  When you hang the kevlar, the weave will begin to stretch due to the effect gravity has on all objects.  I personally have never tested the difference between stopping power of a "hanging" vs. "non hanging" vest.  But just a little FYI.

A lot of people say that when you hang a vest it curls the kevlar on the bottom. I've never tested this though. Everyone always says store flat.

It does.  I've hung both my IBA and CIRAS on my wooden "infantrymen's cross" as shown above a few posts, for long periods of time...the soft armor tends to "curl" at the bottom of the carrier due to the weight of the soft armor itself.  I keep plates in mine...so that maybe a factor too.

So hang your plates and store your soft armor flat

That and make sure that no humidity (as much as you can) gets trapped in between  the soft armor panels.
