Unless it's a Brenneke type slug that isn't designed for expansion, this is a typical result.
Another rifled slug, a Federal 1.25 ounce Vital-Shok, impacted at 1587 ft/sec, expanded to 1.319" average diameter (1.366 square inch surface area) and penetrated to 13.6" in 10% gelatin in a previous test series http://www.brassfetcher.com/12%20Gauge/12%20Gauge%20Shotgun%20Summary%20Table.pdf. |

I've heard that if you are wearing a bullet-proof vest and get hit with a slug it wont go through the vest, but it will crush you inside the vest, like push the vest 4 inches into you.

I keep some of the new Federal TruBall DP slugs (1325fps) on hand for penetration problems...much better than just about anything out there except the Brenneke, which can be hard to find as well.
