I was looking at getting a S&W revolver for pocket carry, like the M&P340 or 360.  But after looking at one and checking sizes/weights online, seems it's about the same size as a G26.

I know they're completely different animals, but am looking for something light and small.  I don't own a revolver yet and think 357mag out of such a little gun would be fun to shoot; but, I already have a G17 & 19 so a 26 would fit in nicely.

Anyone have both that can give me a size/weight comparison?

I can do a side by side of the G26 and M&P 340 when I get home later if no none else does. They are basically the same size overall. However, due to the j frame's handle shape, and thinner profile, it's much more concealable in a pocket and even IWB. I wouldn't be able to pocket carry my G26, but I often pocket carry my 340 when at home.

The G26 hides like a small brick in your pocket.

Mouseguns.com has a couple of comparison charts on their site. Check out the "Compact Comparison Chart" pdf on the right side of the page. It has the S&W and the Glock listed....

Thanks, I would appreciate that.  Now that I think about it, the J-frame is definitely thinner...but what about the cylinder itself.

I tried to pocket carry my G30 once... and only once.

Ok, here are the pics as requested. Our food scale is packed away right now so I don't have actual weights. I do know my MP 340 weighs just under 1lb loaded with Speer Gold Dot .357 125gr ammo.

As you can see in the photos, the J frame cylinder is just a hair wider than the G26 slide. However, since the cylinder is the widest part, it conceals much better than the G26.

And it feels like a small brick in your hand.

Very cool. Thank you my good man.  Looks like the cylinder is about the same width, but other than that the SW is much thinner throughout. Good to know, thanks again...

How's it shooting 357mag through such a light gun?

If you have to ask it's too much. Seriously, it's potentially damaging.

Got a 442 and a G26.  The 442 is much easier to pocket carry.  Heck, my Colt New Agent is easier to pocket carry.  Glock is just too thick in the wrong places.  As was said, it feels like a brick in your pocket.

terrible. Plus, 357 out of such a short barrel isn't going to provide any advantages. You'll get absolutely punishing recoil and flash though.

Get a 442/642 and shoot Gold Dot 135gr +P JHP Short Barrel ammunition.

I own a G26, G27, J Frame 642, Ruger LCP.  My standard dress pants/shorts are chino-type Dockers or Ralph Lauren - not pants with large pockets, but pretty standard in my opinion.  I ordered a Desantis Superfly (which is essentially a Nemesis with more sticky rubber) and I cannot carry the revolver in this manner.  Simply, the rig is too large and the printing too obvious.  I've tried before and have been called out by friends (who know that I carry but generally do not think about it).  Glocks cannot be pocket carried in these style pants.  The only option I have for pocket carry is the LCP.  Perhaps if someone has a pant that is more practical and less fashionable, they will have better results.  All I know is that for a standard dress pant, pocket carrying is not an option for these platforms.  Maybe in jeans or something thicker?  Best of luck

Shooting full power .357 out of it is punishing with the stock grip.  However, I carry Speer Gold Dot short barrel 135gr .357 and it's not much more powerful than their .38 round. I bought the 340 for the Big Dot front sights since the 442/642 front sights suck. On duty I could only carry Speer .38 +P in it anyways. Personally I would buy the M&P 342 which is the same gun only chambered in .38 and it's a few bucks cheaper. Buffalo Bore makes some powerful .38 +P ammo that has higher muzzle velocity than the Speer .357 does. I would have bought the 342 had I known they were available.

The 342 is also only 10.8 ounces.

I own both a J frame and a glock 26.

If the pocket is big enough the J frame is very easy to pocket carry all day long. Conceals easily, easy to get out of the pocket etc....

In that same pocket I would never pocket carry the g26. It is just heavier, and shaped in a way that it really is a brick in your pocket.

I know some people do it, but for me, a g26 is not a good pistol to pocket carry.

I carry my J frame in a DeSantis in jeans, dockers, and dress pants.  No problem whatsoever.

i had a G27 and traded it in for a SW 642.  the jframe is much lighter, espcially loaded (less ammo too).  i easily slip the jframe in a pocket holster and wear it in my back pocket and forget its there.

with jeans i have zero printing, just looks li ke a wallet.

I too have both a j frame S&W 642 and a G27.  The j frame is so much more comfortable to pocket carry then the G27.  The J frame is also thinner (well for the most part except the cylinder) and doesn't profile as bad as the G27 does.  With the G27 it looks and feels like you have as other said a "brick" in your pocket.  For me the J frame Airweight or airlite is for pocket/ankle carry and the G27 is hip/IWB.  A second factor is holster choice where some are thinner than others.

I have two J-frame revolvers and the Glock 27 and MP9c (almost twin in size to the 26/27)...

J-frames disappear in a good pocket holster in most pants... Desantis, Mika... The cylinder is the hardest part to hide, but the print doesn't scream "gun" to most folks so it's easy to carry.

the 27 and MP are much easier to carry in a good IWB holster.... My pockets just aren't big enough to pocket it without massive "gun" print.

all steel j frame like my mod 36 weight is similar to the g 26 series(I have a 27) but the glock is harder to pocket carry. airwight j frames lighter than the g series guns. recoil is punishing with a j frame 357 and even with an all steel 357 j (I have a mod 60) it will make you go down to 38 special for comfort. you don't get that much veloicty increase out of the short barrel anyway to make up for the increased recoil issue. I prefer ankle carry for my j frame- comfortable few wardrobe limitations and ONCE YOU PRACTICE EXTENSIVELY pretty fast into action

Though simular in size The J-Frame is much easier to pocket carry than a G26 IME.

As much as I love the G26, it makes a poor pocket pistol IMO.  Too bulky, too heavy and a poor shape for drawing from a pocket.

As some others have alluded to, pocket carry for these revolvers is dependent on your pants and your overall size/shape.  It does not work for me unless I want to look like I have my lunch stuffed into my pocket.  But others seem to have no problem concealing one in their pockets.
In the waistband carry with either the G-26 or S&W Airweights is very comfortable with a good holster like a Crossbreed Supertuck, Comp-tac MTAC, etc.  The G-26 is heavier but it holds 10 rounds of 9mm as well.  If you like the lightweight revolver for carry, and you can manage it for pocket carry, go for it.  It'll be comfortable IWB or pocket, if you can.

All that being said, I prefer semi-autos and carry my G-26 in a Supertuck or carry a Keltec P-32 in my front pants pocket with a Galco leather pocket holster when I prefer to carry something smaller.   I have stuck the G-26 in my pocket a few times around the house but its truly like a brick in there to me like others stated.  It wasn't meant to be a pocket pistol.

I've got a 642 and a 26 and I don't really pocket carry either of them. A J-frame in a front pocket isn't heavy, but it's bulky as hell. I don't know how so many people carry a snubby in a front pocket. I've done it several times, even in cargo shorts or tacticool pants (while hiking). Not concealably enough for me. If it has to be carried in a front pocket, that's when I start looking at flat mouse guns (shudder).

I'd much rather have the 26 over the PD but revolvers are much more condusive to pocket carry than autos IMO.
