Does anyone have experience with the following type of project:

I have a Bulgarian AK-74 kit with side folding stock on the way. What I would like to do is buy a Bulgarian combination gas block and front sight block, shorten the barrel, and permanently attach the AK-74 brake or any other similar AK brake. Will the barrel with permanently attached brake meet the 16 inch barrel length requirement? If not, is there a brake that would add the necessary length? For example, are there any USA made clone brakes that are a bit longer (this will also help with my parts count). I would prefer that the muzzle device be one that controls recoil like a 74 brake rather than one that suppresses the flash, but would be willing to trade off between the two in order to meet the minimum barrel length.

My builder says that he has seen these with the Krink type of compensator, and he won't do the built unless the total length is 16-1/4 inches.

All comments and suggestions are welcome.

I don't believe a combination FSB/GB with 74 brake will meet the 16" min. requirements.  If I was you I would have your builder bring the 74 FSB back and butt it up against the GB and then perm. attach the 74 brake.  This will give you 16"+ barrel and will be perfectly legal.  I think your only other option is to get one of the extended krink brakes from AK USA, but in all honesty I think they look goofy.

If you use the combo gas block you won't get legal length. The only option is to get the goofy extension or go SBR. I am using the goofy approach until I can get mine SBR'd. (Ak-103.com is the source)

Here is a picture of my 74 that I edited to show you what I was trying to describe.  Yours of course would have the folding stock but unless you are going for the look of a 105 this is an option.  I'm actually considering doing this on my next 74 build.  I kind of like the shorter 'K' look.  With a skeleton side folder it would look even sleeker.  This will also cost you less money being as you already have all of the parts.  It just a matter of cutting the barrel and moving the FSB.

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately Washington State does not allow SBRs so it will have to be one of the alternatives show in the responses.
