Question 1:

If I installed a Malkoff Device in a SF M951, can I use the original bezel, or will the heat from the LED melt the neoprene buffer at the front of the bezel?

Question 2:

If I replaced the Mini Scout's KX1A head with the Scout's KX2C head what kind of result should I expect?  200 lumens for approximately 20 to 30 minutes or I will still get the 110 lumens due to the one battery system?

THANKS!

PS - flashlights can be extremely addictive!

re Q1: I have used/still use Malkoff M-60 and M-61 drop-ins in a SF M2 Combatlight (same head as the M951) and it has caused absolutely no probs whatsoever, but I have never let the lamp run continuously for more than a couple of minutes at a time. (Simply because I have had no need to...) Also, don't forget that the additional little washer/spacer thing from Malkoff is needed for these shock absorbing heads in order for the cells to make good contact - so make sure you have that.

there are some mods that need to be done. I will post a little later as I have to head out but in a nutshell you need to mod the following:

remove plastic liner in the adaptor collar (between bezel and body)
grind M60 to fit inside collar
use old SF spring to ensure proper current contact

I think I have pics somewhere

The KX2C will be way underdriven with a single battery. I've found the output not really worth bothering with. Why would you even consider replacing the KX1A? That's as good as it gets with stock Surefire goodies for a single-cell light.

My KX2C doesn't even light up with one cell.

There's your answer. actually very easy to do. Kinda explains itself if you look at them.

I was hoping I could get more lumens out of the little guy  But I guess I am asking too much out of the poor little light.

Yes, I remember that, too.  It was UncivilEngineer who put up a tons of pictures in order to explain to me how it's done, but he didn't mention anything about grinding the M60  Man, with my non-existent mechanical / handyman / do it yourself skills, I think I will just use one of my P60L lamp from my G-2 or 6P.  Besides, I kind of like that plastic collar that keeps the batteries captivated.

Thank you to everyone who answered my question.  Sorry it took me so long to answer - graveyard shifts and all that.  Maybe in the future I will try this endeavor, but meanwhile I'll just stick with the incandescent or a P60L.  It's weird that a Malkoff Device would drop into a G-2 / 6P, but not into a M951, since P60 and P60L are interchangable in those lights.

The Malkoff drop-ins are bulkier than the SF P60 designs. Malkoff drop-ins will fit, you just have to remove a plastic piece in the lamp holder.

sorry just got back to doing this:

MALKOFF M60/M61 IN SUREFIRE M951

This is to show how to fit the Malkoff Devices M60 drop in LED to the Surefire M951 series weapon lights.
Take a wee bit of work but is well worth it once done.
The issue at hand is the angle of the drop-in when it goes to fit into the adaptor. A few parts will be referred to here:
Bezel – this is the part with the lens where the lamp goes into
Lamp Assembly – this is the original incandescent lamp (bulb that was in the light)
Drop in LED – obviously this is your Malkoff Devices M60/M61 LED
Adaptor – not sure of the official name, but this is the threaded collar that goes between the main MH90 housing and the bezel. Its primary purpose is to allow for shock isolation for the batteries.
So on to the mods.
Here is the M60 LED – you can see how short the contact spring is at the back – this is an issue that you have to deal with.

I added on an extra big spring that I had in my parts bin. This is to allow for contact with the battery post when the M60 is in the collar.

Here is the inside of the adaptor – this shows the little black plastic insert. I needed to remove it to allow for a closer fit

I also used a spring from a dead P60 bulb – they are soldered on but forcing them off works – use this also to get proper contact

Here is the M60 sitting in the adaptor and the spring below the M60

Installed into the light

Hope this helps
