I ordered an Aimpoint Pro from Primary Arms for my new Colt. When I pulled it out of the box, it was extremely hot to the touch. Not warm.....hot. It was 108 out today. I know it is supposed to be able to withstand temperatures of upto 160 degrees, so I wasnt too worried until I asked the UPS driver how hot it gets in the back of his truck. He said upto 180 on hot days. He said shit melts in there all the time. I got worried. I popped the battery in, and the damn thing wouldnt even turn on. This isnt my first rodeo. I know how to work a red dot, I know how to put a battery in, and I know that this blows balls. I contacted both Aimpoint and PrimaryArms.

The thing that sucks, is that I cant just have it replaced, because what if it was the heat? Then the next one will just come fried too. Ridiculous. I'm pissed.

Now i'm worried about the CTR stock I ordered...hopefully it doesnt get warped.

The Pro has a few IR settings first.  Try turning at 5 or 6 clicks to bypass the IR settings and get to the visible red dot.  That is the problem I encountered when I got my first PRO.  I thought it was broken.

Tried that earlier today. Sadly, it didn't work. I don't know if it is the heat, or a faulty red dot.

Heat may have killed the battery.
Try a replacement.

Well you do live in AZ, but still man made items break. Even Aimpoint.

Good luck on your replacement.

Ahhh, Marsh speaks.

Do you have an official fan club Marshal?

I don't always buy; but when I do I check to see if PA has it first.

Love ya PA!!!

Marshall took the time to email me. I just replied. I have confidence that it will get sorted out. I'm just bummed out. I was waiting at home all day for that damn package to show up, only for it to be steaming hot to the touch and not working.

At least you got yours.... I placed an order with Primary Arms for a Aimpoint Pro earlier this week. They had it packed up and sent  out to me in record time. I had them ship it USPS as I've  been having great luck this year with their Priority Mail  service. So I track the package the last few days and it's making record time. This morning I see it's "Out for delivery". I check again and it says it's been delivered at 12:44 pm PST so I head down the hall to the mailboxes..... you guessed it. No bloody package.....fuck!!!! This is a retirement community and only the residents or their frerinds, family or staff have key access to the mail area. Popo where called, Primary Arms notified as well as the Post Master. I was going to a shoot this weekend and had plans to mount it to a new build I just completed.
Damn I hate a fucking thief!!!!!!!

You should make a fake package, and leave it in the mail room and when the thief opens it, they are greeted by an exploding dye-pack mixed with cat droppings.

I would've tried a new battery before sending it back, but I feel your pain man. I was pumped for my aimpoint pro to show up and had plans lined up to go to the range that day. Well it showed up and on the third click (4th setting on NV) the dot became insanely bright. Everything else functioned properly but if I ever decided to sell it, I'm sure it would bring the price down a lot. They're taking care of me and replacing it but the whole process is just a buzzkill. You would think they would check each unit prior to shipping.

Yeah.. no.

I work for fedex here in Texas and it will get up to 130 in the back of a truck. Believe me, I've checked... lol

But 180? Even in AZ I gotta call BS. Couriers would be dropping dead.

I suspect OP was shipped a marginal battery that did suffer from the heat. Looks like he's being taken care of though.

Did you confirm the battery is good?  I have a hard time believing the heat caused this, and your CTR stock sure as hell isn't going to warp from riding in the UPS truck

If I had the same problem the first place I would look would be UPS.  UPS sucks.  They probably ran over your PRO and laughed.  Or maybe played soccer with it.

I'm going by what I was told by the UPS guy here in AZ. It gets over 120 here throughout summer. I wouldnt doubt that it was well over that, since the metal Aimpoint was well over 120 degrees just by the feel of it. Even if the UPS driver was off by 10-20 degrees, that still puts the Aimpoint in a ton of heat.

I did not confirm it. I have no other batteries to throw in there, and I really dont think I should have to go buy new stuff just to get this new product to work. But, it's not like I have much going on today. So I will goto the store and see if they have any 3v 2L76 battery.

Marshall got back to me again, but it looks like the cold pack may add 20$ to the charges of shipping, and I dont know what the shipping charges will be. He will let me know for sure on Monday. If It's going to cost me an arm and leg to get this taken care of, I may just send it back for a refund and either wait until the hot season is over, or go try to find one at a store.

Yeah, I don't order ammo, MREs or cigars during the summer here. I guess I need to add electronics to that list.
A friend who used to work at UPS told me they had to insert a temp probe into trailers during the summer to see if it was safe before anyone was allowed to enter.

Yeah, I was just about to order a new HAM radio, but i'm glad I didn't. What also sucks is that I cant order my bodybuilding supplements because they degrade/denature in this heat. So, I have to order months in advance to get through the summer. Sadly, I didnt think this Aimpoint was going to be an issue.

Guess I will wait until the heat wave cools down to order my next Aimpoint.....but vitamins sit in hot warehouses or shipping containers out in the hot sun not to mention
in UPS trucks on the way to warehouses depending upon how long they are warehoused they might all be degraded before you get them even if you order in January...

I hate hot vitamins though they smell bad

Most of what I order comes from places where it doesnt get hot enough to worry. It just boils in the trucks after being shipped.

Could just be a bad contact in the battery compartment.   I ordered a PRO and the one I got wouldn't power up.  I kept playing with it and found the battery contact points were compacted to where the battery wasn't making good enough contact to power it on.  The dealer I got it from replaced it right way even  though he had never seen or heard of one not working right out of the box.
