Seems someone can actualy do clones with the Aimpoint logo. I asked this guy if it was a real Aimpoint and he went balistic on me.

Your opinion?

Fake....

From a previous discussion www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=329292

"There are three easy ways to spot a fake, I'll start with the easiest and most common "give aways".

1. MARKINGS - Most all fake Aimpoint sights have the following markings: Comp M2 4 MOA 10338 #240944 (serial). The serial number is exactly the same on all of them. The other give away is that a model 10338 is a ML2, not an M2.

2. SWITCH - If the switch will constantly rotate in the same direction without stopping. A genuine Aimpoint sight will have a switch that stops when turned all the way off or all the way on. A fake sight's switch will just continue to rotate (which eventually breaks it).

3. GREEN DOT - Less common, however, some fake Aimpoint sights have green dots. All genuine Aimpoint sights have red dots only."

I reported it on eBay.

I did the correct thing eBay wants. I asked a question and this is what I got back.

My Question: "Is this a true Swedish Aimpoint? Looks to be a clone but your description and specs read genuine Aimpoint"

His response was: "Since you doubt my word you are now blocked from ever bidding on one of my auctions ever again. Take your business elswhere sphincter."

I was blown away. I also contacted eBay and told them I was contacting the mfg Aimpoint to show what is happening.

what a douche.  the seller is pissed because he probably got took on a fake and is trying to recoup his losses.  real aimpoints don't have that bright white aimpoint logo on 'em  either.  sphincter.

I reported him too!
I almost bought one of those fakes just a month ago!!!

Glad I caught this thread.

You think he knew before I yanked his chain? Its at $217.50!!! At least he cant say he didnt have a clue now. I sent an email to Aimpoint also. I actually bought a tacpoint first and I knew what it was. Now I am looking for an Aimpoint and I almost got burnt twice!!!!

I saw the other forum and going to post this there to but it seems the best thing to look for is the term "Sweden" on the sight

Stevemc:

The only problem with some off the things to look for is that we cant touch them online. I suppose stupid ebay will ban all Aimpoints because of a few jerks.

They can no longer ban AR15 items because Bushmaster makes a top-loader that is legal in California and is NOT considered an assault rifle in the US anywhere (at least what I have found)

Definitely a fake. The Airsoft mount is the the first clue. The second is the large Aimpoint logo on the body and the front cap. On real ones the Aimpoint logo is molded into the cap.

Bomber

ETA he also says it comes with an Aimpoint QD mount. The mount pictured is a clone Knights that isn;t QD.

I agree, but if the serial and model numbers are the same as the one in my first reply then it is a fake period.

It is also a product of supply and demand.  There is no excuse for trying to pass it off as real, but I think alot of the problem is people buying the clones just because of how they look.  If you want an inexpensive red dot, there are options besides a clone.  The demand for clones in this country is not solely driven by airsofters.

The first guy removed his listing. I was going to email him and tell him to change his screen name to Douche206 for trying to rip people off but since it was removed I didn't.

Not all these guys know what they are selling. I saw one add for an Aimpoint M2 with QR mount that was going for about $150 at the time. The spec's listed were way off for a real M2. He stated he was not familier with Aimpoints. I sent him an email pointing out the discripencies and that it was a fake. To his credit he printed my email at the bottom of the add agin stating he did know one way or the other. It still sold for almost $300.

They're fake. Anybody that would think they're going to get a real Aimpoint for a starting bid of $10.00, probably doesn't need one anyway.

starting bid doesn't matter, it's the ending bid.  ebay fees in the past were based on starting bid.  i used to start all of mine at $1 to save on the listing fees.

I just scored an M2 off of ebay with all the goodies, but I'm kind of worried that it could be a fake. It has all the accessories and it feels like a real one, but for some reason the 4MOA part is scratched out and blacked over. It's says Comp M2 and Made in Sweden and it also has the subdued logo on the side and underneath.

Guess I'm paranoid about being scammed.

I would say...w/out seeing pics of it that yours is real.

I was going to post some pictures but I'm convinced it's real. Thanks for the help!

It says CompM2 and whatever was directly behind that has been blacked out. Underneath that it says Made in Sweden. I have been trying to find as many pictures as I can to compare. That's when I noticed the subdued aimpoint logo on the underside on mine and other aimpoints. I can post pics if you would like.

I ended up getting one for $336 of the Ultimatearms seller. I called after I won the bid to make sure. Says made in Sweden and comes in the factory retail box. They are legal dealer/distributor If this one is a fake I am going to crawl right through the internet and get em.

Thanks for all taht helped get those fakes off. If you want to buy I clone I have no problem with that and all ready said I bought a Hakko a couple of years ago. Left it out in the rain for over a week and there was no moisture anywhere and it rained three or four days. Now I had the money for an Aimpoint and I bought it.

Now I have a half clone M68 ARMS mount. The ring and mount are clone and I bought the cantilever spacer. THEY DO NOT MATCH BOTH IN COLOR AND FIT!!!

Anyone have one or know a place with a good buy???? I got ripped on the M68 mount as it was not listed as clone. It is strong mount and well built but doesnt fit my spacer.

I would have ordered the combo from Larue and been done with it.  It would have cost you about 20% more than your auction price, but you wouldn't have to worry about it being real.

Yeah, I reckon you've got a point.I'll put it another way. If you get up to about $100.00 and you're past the reserve, you may want to get suspicious of a fake sight, especially if people ain't just crawling all over it.
