I had to share a sneak peak of my modern take on a 607 style stock. It started out as going to just be a shorty with a flux 607 butt plate from Braceman. Then I got to thinking it would be cool to take an M4 set up and make it work on the stock. I set out to built a prototype to test the concept. It worked using the sling swivel as the leaver to slide the stock on the tube and to lock it in.

Once I knew it would work, I asked Braceman if he could make a finished product. I sent everything to him to study and see what he could do. He worked his magic and sent me these pictures tonight. I can't wait to mount it on the pre band A1 lower that is on my .22 shorty. The butt plate is more of a type D/E now, then a 607 as there was no need for the leaver on the back. I will DuraCoat it in matt black when I receive it. I'll update with more pictures ASAP.

was that the stock that i had that was cut out for a carbine receiver extension?  if so, bravo for taking the project through to completion.  not sure what the guy was thinking that modded it but i'm glad you took it and ran with it.

Yes, that is the one. Braceman said it turned out heavy duty and works great. The swivel is a little forward, but that's where it was on my prototype. I'm sure with a little more work, someone could figure out a leaver system tha would move it back to the standard location.

Why not make a lever thingamajig like on the standard carbine stocks with the swivel on the end

i like it.  one of the more creative engineered solutions to a bubba'ed stock.

We talked about it, but Braceman would have had to start from scratch on the engineering. There is less room in the body of the stock then you may think. I went simple, yet functional. Braceman made my idea come to life.

I would buy a stock setup like that. Nice work. Very creative.

Could you do something like this with recessed latches, and leave the sling swivel "in place?"

The green are latches, and the red is the plunger and spring, while the light gray would be the (presumably) aluminum "base" for the stock body.

I guess these would be a lot more complex, and therefore commensurately expensive, but they'd look the part, and allow you to have a Form 1'ed SBR lower with a CAR receiver extension if you wanted to use it for multiple builds/uppers (XM177E1 and XM177E2 at least ).

The bottom design you could actually have the latch be at the rear of the stock like the 607 latch - it would move up and down instead of pivoting, though.

Both concepts we played around with. I like the first one and Braceman liked the second. In the end, I wanted it to be very simple and stright forward. The concept started out for another higher dollar project, but I went a different route on that build. Since this was now going on my .22 shorty, cheap also entered the equation for me. I'll hang a sling on it and only the folks on this retro site we even know the swivel is in the wrong spot.

I'm sure Braceman would be willing to take another crack at the second one if someone wanted to pay for the engineering. He does great work!

I kind of like this concept, but it would have to have a strong enough spring so that you didn't change the stock position every time you used the sling. Let us know how it works for you. Very clever use of materials. I've  wondered in the past if it wouldn't be possible to make a 607ish stock that worked on a regular carbine tube, but never even got into the planning stage - and here you've gone and done it. Kudos - really!

I wish someone would remake the total silence bolt on stock and charge what it is worth.
I actually NEED one. At  400$ they were underpriced anyway.  I think I am the only person that feels that way.
IMO it needs to look original.

I still think my65pan made the nicest and most original 607 stocks around. The TS bolt on mod was an convenient mod however. I know Tom does nice work as well.

This one started out back in October to go on my idea of a modern 607 A2. Boywonder came accross a type D stock that someone had cut the guts out of to allow a M4 tube to slide into. A couple things happened along the way. I told Braceman to do it in his free time, but all you guys have kept him too busy. The second item was that Stoner agreed to take me under his wing and help me build an as correct as possible 607. This allowed me to modify the butt plate to more of a type E without the trap door. I told Braceman I just wanted it to be fun, something people would ask about. The spring on an M4 stock is pretty stout. If you have one, go try to move it without using the handle as a leaver. It takes a lot of effort. Even if you move it, it has to come all the way out to allow the stock to slide. If I get a chance, I'll post up pictures of the mock up so you can really appreciate Braceman's work. It will keep us busy until I receive the stock and can post up some detailed pictures.

I received it today in the mail from Braceman. I made a couple of modifacations once I started playing with it. I drilled the butt and stock and tapped the stoch to lock everything down. The sling swivel does not pull out at all. With the sling attached it is easy to get leverage to adjust the stock. I knew the original owner modified the front of the stock, I just did not notice how much. In the last picture with it closed, you can see the gap. I have a broken type E stock that I may cut down and see if I can close that up. I'll test it tomorrow at the range before I make any more changes.
