Anyone know what the original "correct" buffer is for a 629 XM177E2, the standard carbine buffer or the 3pc steel "commando" buffer? The 3 pc buffer isn't in the carbine variations tacked here, in BRII it says in 1 place "all carbines used the standard carbine buffer until the M4A1", then later it shows the 3pc steel "commando" buffer & says that buffer was used in all 11.5" & 9mm variations. I'm expecting my XM177 parts back any day & need to locate a 3pc buffer if that's what it's supposed to have, if so anyone know of any suppliers that stock the 3pc Colt buffers, or were they made by other contractors for Colt?

Thanks for the replies, guess a buffer from a 639 is as positive as it's gonna get LOL!
Looks the same as the SP1 carbine buffer I have except your pic shows a roll pin at the bottom, mine has none, I assume mine is 1 pc, the 1 in your pic is 2pc? Anybody know anything about the use/history of the 3 pc "commando" buffer, mainly if that buffer was VN era?

Mine niether. First Colt buffer I've ever seen from the early days w/a roll pin. And based on the color of the rear piece, it is a Colt. Hmmmm.

willp,
Colt "C" marked buffers show up in original Colt M16A2 COMMANDOs and Colt 9mm SMGs manufactured in '85-'86.
