It's a reality show.....
It's staged aka "American Chopper". Coddington has been in buisness for years building rods/custom-wheels. Do you think his shop is really run like that? Do you notice how many cars are setting around being worked on at once? "Reality TV" - America's continuing dumbing-up of it's citizens!!!!! I enjoy it and "American Chopper" - You have to take them with a grain of salt. Boyd is well known in the industry: - Hot Rod magazine man-of-the-year - SEMA hall-of-fame - Grand National Roadster Show's top award 7 times - Damlier/Chrysler design excellance award 2 times He has some nice cars for sale: www.boydshop.com/cars.htm - man, I love that Ford Coupe!!!!! |

No shit... Where the fuck can I guy watch a show about Lions in Africa these days? All we have now is: in a fix, monster house, gays knock down a wall, Chopper town, Chopper town USA, Chopper Town EU, Chopper build off, Gay Chopper Build off, Gay Chopper build off in your Living room, A make over story, Gay chopper in a fix Makeover baby story in your living room build off custom truck OCC style hosted by Jesse James. Edited to add: I forgot about the stupid show Wing Nuts or whatever the hell it is... That show's about worthless too. I can't wait until the start the Military History Channel. |

Yeah, he was stupid. Boyd tells him to do something and he did something else. What a dumbass, dude owns the company, you fall in line. That Dwayne guy is a dick. I watched it last night and he and Boyd were wandering why moral sucked. Hmm, maybe cause your shop boss is a dick and you keep coming up with these stupid ass deadlines and make everyone work 100 hour weeks. I wanna see that Thomas dude and Roy beat the shit out of Dwayne. Roy rocks! They've fired lots of people the last time I saw it. That one chick was kinda cute. |

and to the people saying the younger guys(like bluebear) are idiots... dont forget who is the next generation of metal workers/fabricators ect.... its all the younger guys everyone is calling idiots... i liked bluebear.. it was HIS project and he wasnt gonna let ANYONE change HIS design... if boyd wanted it to be done hisway from the begining he should have just built both.... i hope boyd gets his place raided (again) i think its been raided 2 times already for illegally registering cars or something |

I actually just started watching the show about a week ago - along with "Overhaulin".
THe first "American Hot Rod" show I saw is where they had that new welder guy from Montana and that Bluebear character was giving him shit continually. While it's great if everyone takes it as a joke, it's harassment, pure and simple. And Dwayne telling him to just suck it up - that was a major lawsuit waiting to happen. The lack of professionalism by managament is just unbelievable. Not even speaking of "I want to boost the shop's morale, so I'll bring in this Woody (that no one likes to work on, and it has to be ready in a ridiculous amount of time - Hmmm. Why does morale suck now? I know - I'll make them go to Seal Camp to work out while I watch. Yeah. That's the ticket." |

Bluebear had bought the car (well....the frame and body and a few other pieces) Boyd was paying for some of the parts, but not the whole car. That said.....I'm glad he's gone...he was the single most annoying guy on the show. |

What pisses me off is the double standard on that show. Boyd bitches about the disrespect and even fired a decent working new guy for saying one little smart ass remark BACK at dwayne after he jumped in his shit but will let Dwayne belittle his workers and let Blue Bear talk shit to everyone, including Dwayne and Boyd and not never gets any work done on top of that.

i sure wouldnt want to work for boyd or buy one of his cars after watching the show. if im paying $50-500k then i dont want the workers rushed and cutting corners on quality. take your time and do it right and good, not good enough.
anyone know what the friction is between foose and boyd? i know foose used to work for boyd, and its mentioned on foose's website, but not details. the cars in the back are customer cars, that arent being worked on because of the custom projects. so you wonder why there is prolly a big wait to your car back from boyds? well its because they are building custom cars instead of working on yours. bluebear was a dumbfuck, he had everything handed to him and pissed it away, and all he had to do was 1 thing to make the car safer, and not kill US on the road, hes a big fucking baby. and they shouldnt of fired the girl worker, like thats a good way to get more girls interested in cars. maybe a suspension or write up for missing work, but how dumb to fire a good worker when your down manpower. and boyd was a chickshit for letting duane do it and not himself. if you hire then you fire, and duane doesnt hire. it seemed like charlie wanted to stay with boyd but paint 1 car for foose, boyd should of seen what a good oppurtunity this is for his guy and not let his differences with foose get in the way. doesnt look like too much loyalty from boyds part. he seems like a guy that can dish it out but cant take it. i like how boyd walks into the paint shop and bitches about how hot it is in there then walks out, with all his money why not get those guys some A/C and better compressor ? |

Oh brother, you guys act like this is real stuff.
This show and American Chopper have the same producer and writers. It's all fake, it's all made up drama, it's not real! The idea is to make some controversey, make some last minute-how will they ever get done bullshit anxiety, and then somehow they get done and all is well. If you believe the shops are actually run that way, you need to leave your house every now and then, and explore the real world. |

That was the only episode I watched, and the only episode I will watch. Didn't like the management style there, both were assholes. Accused the guy of being a smartass, when that is exactly how the management team acts to their employees. They let the one guy off for being a smartass at the meeting but fired the new guy. They also accused the new guy of not offering to fix his mistake when the tape clearly showed he was more than willing to redo the work. The only person worth watching is the old dude who works part time. |

i have watched the show once, during a marathon. never seen or heard of it before Started watching the ep where they start the bluebear/older guy build off. Talk about asshole. boyd, and dwayne are total fuckups. neither have any social or manager skills. Bluebear was told he could build and design his own vehicle, with some of his own parts. He stood up for his principles. i have no doubt in my mind it was hard for him to do what he did. On one hand he had this asshole boyd willing to buy him a car, his dream car. on the other hand he had this asshole boyd wanting to change the design on his dreamcar because he was funding it. He stood up for his principles and would not allow the design change. it was the right thing to do. For boyd to basiclly destroy his chasis after knowing full well he was going to fire him and not complete it, was just a total asshole thing to do. Bluebear is a young guy like myself. although he seemed to be somewhat annoying from what i saw, Boyd and dwayne had no reason to act as they did. to throw his engine off in a fit of rage, should have got him FIRED ON THE SPOT. Boyd acts like the king of the castle, not the boss of the shop. needs to stop with the asshole with the money attitude and pull his head out of his ass. I have never been so pissed about a tvshow in my life until i watched those few episodes. I was thinking about it for days. about what was the right thing to do in that situation. some of you say the show is planned, but i doubt anyone would "plan" to get fired from there job. there is no doubt in my mind boyd and dwayne are REALLY that big of assholes in real life. and WTF is with the wife there? does she work there? bitch standing around insulting employees is BULLSHIT! |

I don't know if how much of the show is created by the producers making efforts to direct it, or just the natural behavior in the shop. But, I'm sure if Discovery went to shops looking for one to make a show, and found a shop with people working in an orderly fashion, finishing before dealines so they have time to correct problems, and a pleasant work environment, they'd laugh and move on to the next shop. Nobody would just watch other people do their normal boring job all day.
I think American Chopper has the whole family work environment going for it which makes it believable. Families working together DO insult each other and act in a similar fashion without getting fired or quitting because there is more of a bond than their work. When you see Boyd's shop, you see some people who should be fired or brought in line, and others who should quit, and wonder why it hasn't happened. I don't know the situation in Boyd's shop, but on American Chopper, its easy to figure out that the family makes new designs to show off and get name recognition, while the second shop has normal grunts turing out customer bikes, that have been sold due to that name recognition. I figure Boyd's shop it somewhat similar, but they don't show it on the show. |
