I finally went out with my new shot timer and ran a some 'El Presidente" drills for the first time. First off, what a blast having a timer is!
So I was using as follows: Sig P226R SCT with a Grey +P Pink Power Spring and Fat guide Rod SERPA Holster BVAC 115gr FMJ Once fired ammo My average times were low 7's but my few best times were in the 6 second range. The best time was 6.67 seconds broke down as follows: 1st 1.85s 2nd .20s 3rd .46s 4th .19s 5th .36s 6th .18s 7th 2.24s (reload) 8th .19s 9th .31s 10th .19s 11th .29s 12th .21s When reloading I power stroke the slide as my grip always has the slide go into battery on an empty chamber (yes I am fine with that as it's my grip for my CCW 1911). I looked up a Hit Factor calculator and that fell at 8.99HF and another calculator put me in the "A" Class for USPSA. Only reason I looked at that is because I am probably gonna shoot my 1st USPSA match next week (Been shooting Multigun). What can you guys do? This timer is pretty awesome, made me sad I only brought 100 rounds

I don't compete, I just mess around at the range but I'm always looking for new games. Whats the targets and lay out for "El Presidente"? 3 targets, 10m away, 1m apart, 2 mags with 6 rounds. Facing away, buzzer goes, you turn draw and fire 2 shots on each target, reload and repeat. Lots of YouTube clips out there. |

Only we had six steel pepper popper targets plus two steel plate hostage targets. I had the best score in the class with a little over 6 seconds if i'm remembering correctly. I won top gun in the class with that time. |

Between 5 and 6 cold. Low 5s if I am warmed up and have shot it a few times. What equipment are you using, gun and all? STI 2011 in 9x19 and 40, M&P in 9x19 or a Steyr M9 in 9x19. L-2598. I dont train/practice with handgun as much as I used to. My classification reflects that... |

I went out today and have been jones'n to shoot this since last time. I love this timer!

I want to get this down to 4 seconds with this setup |

My recent two El Prez classifiers are 90% in Limited shooting minor, and 91% in SS shooting major. I've pulled 100% scores in production (M&P) but it was not a USPSA affiliated club at the time (which it is now) so it didn't count towards my classification.
My limited minor time was 5.07 and SS time was 5.3. The production run was 5.11 but is a "fun match". These were all in matches. I think I've got the production run El Prez as a stand alone video on my youtube channel. The SS is imbeded in one of my other match videos from a while ago. www.youtube.com/want2race441 I can't access utube so hopefully this link will work |

I shot a 5.77 today on my third try. I never ever practice El President but it's kind of separate from competition. Being good at El Presidente doesn't make you good at other courses and being good at other courses doesn't make you good at El President. If you want to be good at El Presidente you have to practice El Presidente. I regularly beat most of the Master Limited shooters at my local club here but I suck at El Presidentes because we never set them up. |

Quoted: EL Prez does not require any special skills. It is just a quick test of recoil control, transitions and a reload. If you can't put those together well for the classifier, you aren't magically going to be able to do it in a field stage. Yes I agree but being good at an El President will not make you good at USPSA in general. The El President is a very controlled environment, the targets are very close to you and they are uniform with no special challenge or stance needed. There isn't any no-shoots to avoid, you don't have to transition from box to box, you don't have to shoot through an obstacle or around an obstacle. Someone can be really good at El Presidentes and suck at everything else. |

Someone can be really good at El Presidentes and suck at everything else. I agree, but my point is; people that do not shoot El Prez well, usually do not shoot well in general, as EL Prez is a test of the fundamentals. You can have shooters that have limited skill and blaze a EL Prez, but it usually hero or zero and not a score that they can consistently shoot. |

Look at the classifier "Front Sight". Like El Prez it is a test of fundamentals. For 95% and above you need a 4.6 clean (3 targets per string, two strings). I can do 4.4, just not clean. It's a test of draw and transitions from both hands relaxed and turn and draw. The targets are 7 feet apart. It's a big transition between each. No hard cover, no NS's. Transitions are key to good times, in ALL stages.
I like El Prez because your reload has to be perfect, your draw has to be perfect. Being able to smoke it doesn't make a great shooter, I agree. It is still a good fundamentals test. Sometimes stage designers get happy with the turn and draw starts. If you can smoke EP, then you have turn and draws down pretty good. I'm still trying to break under 1.2's at 7y. |
| Anyone else here remember the ''El Presidente Challenge' that was held at the shoot-off of the US Nationals back in the late 90s? The top 16 were all given two runs at El Prez, and anyone with a specific hit factor (I don't rember what it was, but it was high) would get $10,000. The hit factor worked out to something like a mid or high 3 second run, down zero. It was pretty fun to watch, since the match was already done and there was nothing to lose. There were a couple of high 3s (TGO and TJ, IIRC), but nothing clean. Fun to watch. |
| I shot Nuevo El Prez on sunday. It's like El Prez but with hard cover and no-shoots covering the targets. I had a slight bobble with the reload and shot it conservatively. 11A, 1D in 6.1 seconds. Only good enough for 87%. Bummer. Video is on my youtube, 09/18 match |

Why only 6 rds per magazine?? You don't have to have 6 rounds per mag, but you can only shoot 6 rounds per sequence. Every round you shoot after that is considered a procedural and you get points deducted from you. But if you are certain you have a miss, it's better to immediately take a make up shot. If you have a miss, you lose the 5 points for the A you didn't shoot and the 10 points for the miss penalty. If you immediately make up the miss with an A, you only lose 10 points for the Procedural penalty. So you are up 5 points with only a fraction of a second in lost time. Yea, your Classifier is still fucked, but your match score is better than if you took the miss. Now, that all changes if the miss you thought you had turns into a D on the perf... BTDT
