In the off-hand position, do the rules allow the weak side support hand to be placed under the magazine? I know the rule 5.4 say that the magazine can touch the shooter, but does it also say you cannot support the rifle under the magazine. Although, 3.14 say the magazine is not considered a palm rest.
Art 5.4 Rifle Magazine - The magazine of the rifle may touch the person or clothing of the shooter, but may not touch the ground or be used to provide artificial support. 3.14 Palm Rest - Any attachment or extension or stock design which aids the normal hand grip and/or support of the rifle by the forward hand that extends to a depth of more than 3 1/4 inches below the centerline of the bore is a palm rest. The standard box magazine/reduced capacity magazines, Rule 3.4, or rifles under Rules 3.1 and 3.3 are not considered palm rests. Palm rests may only be used on “Any” rifles (Rule 3.2). Palm rest must be specified in the match program. |

It's only artificial support if it touches the ground. It's legal to use the magazine in offhand. Quite a few M14 shooters do. |

Sir, actually I know at least one AR-15 shooter that uses the magazine in offhand too. 7zero1 out. |
| It’s a good method and I use it in my military shoots. The only slight disadvantage of this method is if for whatever reason you have a KB, the force of the explosion is going to hit the bolt and come down that mag onto hands. I don’t use hot loads for most of those since it is only 100 yards and so have no hesitation using that method. |
