The Appellate Division's First Department also upheld the prohibition on LaPierre from holding a position as an officer or director of the NRA for 10 years. "The 10-year ban does not burden LaPierre’s rights to freedom of speech and association, as he remains a member of the NRA and is not precluded from making any public statements or involving himself in fundraising or other outreach," the opinion said. "Neither does the monetary restitution amount constitute a fine. Instead, it serves the remedial purpose of reimbursing the NRA for the losses LaPierre caused, making it compensatory in nature." This was my immediate thought too. Sad that he did so much damage, along with a few other cronies. Why did they put up with his reign of narcissism for so long? I was never a life member but I started signing up and getting the black shooters hats … back in the mid to late 80’s. I followed through …. For a very long time. I assisted with multiple Friends in NRA banquets, before walking away…. Vowing to not send another dime or work another event. Wayne and Marion Hammer imho, were the main culprits but I could be wrong. Such arrogance. |

The crowd doesn't want to admit they've been had. So anyone calling out the NRA as the enemy is clearly an anti-gun plant. 20 years ago the only vaguely public dissent against the NRA inside the gun community seemed to be from the more radical members of the tiny NFA community. Hearing them speak ill of our great saviors was shocking to me, and also wildly overshadowed by the other 99% of the gun community who held the NRA up just barely behind their own church as a bastion of righteousness. |
| When I first joined the private range, you got a discount for being a NRA member. After they sent a looser of a lawyer to fight UBC in the City of Missoula, the range cut all ties with the NRA. The UBC was overturned by MTSC under our preemption clause in our state Constitution. That was all the “lawyer” had to argue, but dropped the ball sitting on his hands. |

It was basically Wayne and the grifters he made wealthy, vs Neal Knox and very few others who actually cared. Wayne won, and his toadies on the board changed the bylaws to guarantee that nobody could ever interfere with the grift again. |
