Is it possible to buy UTM paint marking training rounds for the AR15 for personal use? I remember using them while training force-on-force with the Navy SEALS in Fort Irwin National Training Center, and they prove to be very educational. I was wondering if it possible for an active duty persons to be able buy such items for personal training? -Mike |

These were announced at SHOT and pre-orders started today. I'm working on getting a unit sent for T&E but I did get a chance to play with it at SHOT and plan to put in an order myself... |

Couple of guys at work have been using it and speak highly of it. It's looking like I will get a chance to try it out this weekend. |

Used my AXTS/N4 switchblock upper (12.5) on a snatch+grab op w/UTM's the other day. Notes:
You need a special bolt, for sims only, w/offset firing pin. Strikes the rimfire cap that activates (+spring action) the sim round. No JPSCS: JPSCS will NOT work with the UTM bolt, as it has a plastic plug that says CHECK BORE in it (bc of how often the utm munitions choke and then stack up in the bore - which is right where the rod would normally 'penetrate' the back of the BCG... had to steal a spring/buffer out of a svc M4 real quick to make use my wpn w/the UTM's. They worked quite well out of a 12.5 switchblock, it's blowback w the UTM bolt though, so that's to be expected about 4 guys out of 12 had the UTM projectiles completely filling their barrels stacked end to end by the end of the exercise out of 14.5" standard M4's. Maybe my 12.5" helped dodge that bullet. I guess you have to heat up the barrel and push/hammer them out from the chamber side, according to some research... IDK, I just hope nobody sticks those wpns back in a wpns rack and blows up the next poor sucker at the range. Esp w/nobody caring much about using brass rods to check the bore anymore... Lord help us They hurt. I wore plates and eyepro. Luckily don't have any new face zits (you're supposed to wear that facemask thingy) cycled 100% reliably, I was surprised. We all know how HORRIBLY blanks run, always, no matter how tight you mangle the thing onto your poor ass FH, using your gerber till the ring is deformed... Run pretty clean. 6 mags of them and only the area around my 'star chamber' aka barrel extension was dirty totally whiff after about 50 ft. Like literally like trying to throw a wiffle ball down a football field. quiet as shit... Way less gay then pewpew/MILES or blanks. Actually motivates you to take your MOUT seriously when opfor+teams know they are going to get 'shot' when clearing paintball works well too but ruins gear sometimes when you end up all pink or green and don't wash the shit out. How do you wash a damn plate carrier w/pouches? fuck that |

Airsoft would be cheaper , more reliable, and easier to find. Doesn't have the same learning value. If you mean it doesn't hurt as bad, true. But, unless you have government funding, both UTM and Sims are not practical . |

If you're taking a class from a competent instructor, then you shouldn't be burning through hundreds of rounds in a FoF class. Realistic training should be the focus, not replicating Somalia. |

I don't disagree but the OP talked about personal use. Sure, there is some small advantage in realism, but the Average Joe is probably not going to realize any benefit for the cost involved versus something like airsoft, properly applied of course. -UTM/Sim rounds cost more than premium ammunition. -They require proprietary parts. -They are difficult to source. -They require enhanced safety measures. |
