Has anyone done tent camping at Perry? What was it like? Out in an open field with no shade or under trees? It's usually very difficult for us to get huts so tent camping might be an option. Just wondering what it was like. Thanks

Last time I went we rented a little cottage for like $700 for the whole week.  I love camping but I thinnk this is infinately preferable for a week when you are trying to concentrate on shooting.

CI is dead-on (as usual).  Finding a rental in Port Clinton is probably the best solution, unless you have a nice camper or RV.

I will never stay in those huts again ... unless I find a buddy with the huge Chevy 2500, a genset, A/C, and fridge.

Erie Island Resort is just down the highway towards the toll road.  They usually rent the All-Guard Pistol team guys rooms for $200.00 or less a week.  They also have an RV park.  There were a few guys tent camping on Perry for pistol, it can be done but if it rains or the hurricane blows you might be in trouble.  The huts are slightly better than tents.

I'm going with a module this year in hopes of avoiding the Friday and Saturday night drunks that seem to beat their girlfriends in the halls of every motel/hotel and resort within 30 miles of Port Clinton.

I am in the planning stages for my first trip to Camp Perry and also contemplating camping because I don't have the money for the other options, and because I happen to enjoy camping.  An aquaintance in the know tells me the camping area has no trees or other shade of any kind.  He told me the State Park down the road is much nicer for tent camping. It looks to be about seven or eight miles from Perry.
