Always wanted to shoot competitively and just discovered a place nearby that shoots both USPSA and IDPA. I own a Glock 22 But I am in the neighborhood for a 9mm of some sort. Turns out a friend's dad has a new gen 4 Glock 17 that he won shooting and will sell it to me for $460. Problem is I shoot my Glock 22 poorly. Low and left. I have shot lots of other guns and don't have this low left problem with other brands. The S&W MP9 interests me but have never even held one. Nobody has one locally. So here is my problem, buy a gun that I have never shot and don't know how well I shoot it or buy a new Glock at a pretty good price and learn how to shoot it? I plan on trying both USPSA and IDPA to see what I like better. Just not sure which gun to try it with.

Shoot the Glock 22 you have and get better with it before buying something else. Bad habits aren't conquered by new toys. For USPSA, which is what I shoot in, get a few more mags and a good holster, I suggest a Bladetech DOH, and get onto Production Division. If you reload, you can download 40S&W to 125PF and it shoots very soft.

Do you think you are shooting low and left because of anticipation of recoil from the 22, if so then the 19 make alot of since.

if you don't handload to be able to download to minor as PKT1106 commented, how about a LoneWolf 40 to 9mm conversion barrel (they are around $100)... you may wish to opt for a 9mm ejector block and 9mm mags... if you are planning on purchase of a Glock for competition only, would suggest the G34 (I don't really like the multi spring setup, and my G34 is Gen 3)... you will most likely need aftermarket sights with any Glock for competition use

Bought the Glock 17. I shoot much better with it versus the 22. No more low and left.
