I got a comptac setup, but was wondering if my brokos belt with hsgi double decker taco mag holders would be legal as well for production?  Id like to run it for shits and grins and like all the mag changes in production.

As long as the pouches are behind the hip bone, and there is not more than 2" between the inner part of the belt and the mag you're good to go.

ordinary common sense, at least for USPSA.

If you got specific gear questions, ask.

Far as shooting, keep the gun forward of the ranges 180, break the 180 you go home.

Find a local club and watch a match and/or bring what you have.  The MD will place you in the correct spot.  I'm no match director, but most new shooters I surrest LTD minor when they show up with a glock.  It easier for them, and usually they are not going to  competitive,

Try this for the basics, http://www.columbia-cascade.org/ (on right, click "CCS Business", then click "CCS 2008 Safety/Training manual" )

Then watch these guys, http://www.powerfactorshow.com/

And then go to You tube to watch everything from beginner to pro. On youtube search "DQ USPSA"  for what not to do.

Ran my brokos belt w/ tacos this weekend and everything went fine.  Was concerned Id get a few cross looks as it wasnt exactly the standard setup but that wasnt the case, even got a few compliments.  The Double Decker tacos worked great and I pulled my ar mags out the front two so I could stuff a couple more mags in each one.

If you are new to competition then USPSA is probably the best option. In my experience, they hold the title for 'new shooter friendly'.

For the basics check out www.brianenos.com. Brian is one of the very early practical shooters and his web site is dedicated to USPSA / practical shooting.

Check out a local match. If you already have a rig, bring it. You'll probably want to enter the match when you see how easy it is. If you just want to look around that's good too.

If you decide to enter the match, tell the folks running it you're a first timer. Under the current rules the RO in charge of your squad is allowed to coach you through the stage and your squad mates will be happy to bury you in advice.

The only rules you need to worry about initially regard safety and those fall into the general categories of muzzle and trigger discipline. Don't point the muzzle anywhere but at a target. Don't go near the trigger until the muzzle is on target.

The rest of the book is about stage design, match management, and a slew of rules that are there because someone tried to impress his friends and got a little carried away.

The rules forum on the Enos web site will have the answers to 99% of your questions. I can probably help with anything that doesn't make sense.

In regards to KY's question:

Definitely check out your local matches.  Keep in mind, not all clubs will be running 'sanctioned' USPSA or IDPA matches.  This means they're running their own version of an 'Action Pistol Match'  I've been to places that require IDPA type concealment garments, yet score like USPSA.  And vice versa.  So, get the low down on that first before you really start worrying about the rule set.  They will let you know what is 'legal' or not at their match.

If you do go to an official USPSA match, don't worry about your gear first few times.  They'll probably let you 'run what you brung' and figure out the scoring for you later.  It's not like you are going to be posting up scores to the site anyway....
