I have used IMR4895 immediately followed with Varget (600 yards) and experienced problems with the first couple rounds being flyers out into the 8 ring. Recently I have wondered if H4895 followed by Varget would be more compatibly because of a more similiar makeup or chemistry (barrel residue)?
Anymore I use just one powder because it's not worth the hassle, but I am curious. Thanks |

I don't think varget likes to follow anything. Quoted:

I have no idea why this happens, but I accept that is does.
I have been developing loads for my daughter's WOA and have seen the same phenomenon. As a result, I find a light cleaning to be less frustration between changes. This also implies one would have to pre-determine how many rnds to fire after a change to get back to performance. Cleaning between changes is okay at the short lines, but you will need to know exactly before the 600. |

There is a list out there in internetland of which powders you can ( and shouldn't ....) use after another.... I'll have to see if I can find it.... I think it is from the "Hi-Power" website...

I found the thread I was thinking of...http://www.usrifleteams.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=14581&hl=compatibilities&st=15... you'll have to join to view..
THE FOLLOWING IS QUOTED FROM THE ABOVE LINKED THREAD !! Posted 20 October 2009 - 07:09 AM One thing to keep in mind is that cleaning between powder changes can mitigate compatibility problems. Maybe the AMU shooters run a patch through their bore when they change loads. Anyway, here is the compatibility list I compiled a few years ago. It is in no way scientific and compiled nearly 100% by hearsay.
