Shot a Garand match today.  All 5 sighters were Xs & 10s.  Great start!  First round for score was a 9 and it went down hill from there.  Rapid fire reload; the clip wouldn't go in, took it out and reinserted it, it went "most of the way" in and jamed the rifle.  8 misses!

Was a great day to be outside shooting with some great people!

I think the alibi addresses equipment malfs allowing a refire.  Can someone confirm?

There are no alibis allowed in the CMP Games matches (Garand, Springfield, Carbine, Vintage Military Rifle)

If it had been a real EIC match, yes, he would have received an alibi IF he loaded the weapon correctly and the malfunction was solely caused by the weapon (not operator error).  For example, if he fired one shot and the whole clip ejected itself, he could probably get a refire.

Not sure if your a seasoned Garand shooter, but make sure all your rounds are seated in the clip properly. If one of the rounds is sticking up, your clip will jam.

Make up some dummy rounds and practice the loading procedure. In time you'll become very good at it.

Good luck.

Another tip - only use clips that you know will work!  Check them out before you try to use them at a match.  If a clip ever causes you a lick of trouble, THROW IT AWAY.  I don't know about you, but to me losing a bunch of points 'cause I'm too cheap toss a bad clip is foolish.

The clips that come with the Greek surplus ammo from the CMP don't work very well with standard spec. .30-06 ammo.  For some strange reason, the Greek case uses the 7.62x51 (or.308 win if you prefer) rim and extractor groove, NOT the .30-06 rim and groove.  The Greek clips are made to work with the Greek cartridges, and they don't work so well when you try to put ammo with a standard .30-06 case into them.

Whenever I shoot a from a bandolier of Greek surplus, the Greek clips get segregated into a separate bag so they can't mix with my standard USGI clips.

Thanks for the tips.  Yes, I've shot the Garand a time or two...starting in boot camp, '71!  Some times things go bad (a poorly loaded clip) and you've just got to go with it and enjoy the day anyway.  After those first 5 sighters I was thinking this was going to be a great match.
