Hello group. New guy here. Not sure if this is the right forum for this question, maybe the Moderator can move it to the right place.
Does anyone have info on pinning a rear sight for CMP service rifle competition? Number of pins, size of pin(s), length, location, procedure, pictures, etc? Thanks |

Thanks. Looking to tool up and do it myself. Have the skills and machinery, just looking for some ideas. I havew a pretty good Idea how, would like to see what others have done. I thought as much, but, IMO, unless you are doing multiple set-ups, or just have a need to DIY, I find it easier to outsource. As always, YMMV. |

I've seen that book for along time and not even picked up Thanks for the kick in the Ass. 458 |

If you've got the tooling and kit already, why not put a dial indicator on it and see if it tracks straight first?
I shoot with a few who have made highmaster without pinning. Not that I am at that point yet myself, but I am fairly certain I am the reason my rifle doesn't clean the course, not my sights.
Good Luck, and let us know if you test the sight, how bad/good it is. Dave |

Good Luck, and let us know if you test the sight, how bad/good it is. Dave The particular sight in question has a bit more rotational play than usual, so that the aperature looks like a football. The rifle itself shoots incredibly tight groups. It will shoot clean back to 600 if I do my part. Of course, I don't always do my part
Also want to be able to do this mod for the guys at the local clubs we shoot at. Thanks |

I made a pin that fit into the access hole that is already in the sight/receiver. If your sight still has some wobble, here's what I did. Place a shim between the sight and the receiver to straighten out the rear sight. In one of the rear corners,I think the left side. I turned the sight all the way to the bottom and clamped it down. I drilled a hole through the sight and receiver for a 1/8" dowel press fit. I reamed the hole in the receiver for the press fit. I then reamed the hole in the sight for a .001" clearance. Press in pin and reassemble. Check run-out of sight. Bingo.
While you have the sight apart, Tap the hole that is in the center of the sight and install a set screw. It will prevent the sight from flipping. |
