What sling do you prefer?
Why you prefer it would also help. I'm leaning towards the Turner All Weather "Biothane" Sling. I have a Liger Belt that I think is the same material and I also use a dog tracking harness and lead made of the same stuff. I know it stretches a tiny bit and it's very rugged. Does anyone use one of these? Thanks |

Hanz,
The AWS from Turner is a good sling. Yes, it is more difficult to slide into and adjust. But not horribly more than a leather sling. While its "tackiness" causes some difficulty getting into it, it also lends itself to staying up on your arm. It is tough to get it to slide down your arm. In other words, it stays put, helping keep yopur position the same. I have owned a Brownells (not worth it), several leather Turners (great) and 2 Biothane/AWS (great), and a Les Tam (superb, but more $). If you get the chance to try someone's AWS, that will help you decide if the hassle of getting into it is worth it or not. I think it is. JW |
| If you have a Creedmoor Hardback coat, it is not possible to open the sling loop large enough on an m1907 style sling to just put your arm through easily. The frogs and three layers of sling prevent the keepers from sliding that far. For the record I use a Brownell's Competitor Plus leather sling. People have a lot of trouble getting that biothane material over the the checkered rubber; so much so that many have bought & tried the biothane, parked it, and bought leather. If you are using a thinner coat or one without rubber on the upper arm it may be a breeze to use, but a whole lot of people get tired of fighting with the biothane in a match. Nobody that I know uses one anymore. |

I've got a Turner AWS, Turner leather, Les Tam leather and a Ron Brown leather.
My favorite by far is the Les Tam. The quality of the leather and components are great. It only took a few matches to break it in. 2nd would be the Ron Brown; also great quality. I haven't shot with it enough to speak on longevity. It's currently my backup. The AWS can be sticky to adjust in position and the frogs were starting to cut through the material at the holes. If you get that one take the sharp edges of the hooks before you start using it, that should help prevent damaging the holes. |
