Dose anyone have any recommendations on a good dedicated 22LR upper for my Rock River NM?  I'm looking to save a little here and there but I want good practice not just a plinker.  I have a Mossberg 144LSB that I am currently using for practice but I figured a dedicated upper would be a better solution.

DPMS once made them. They are to start manufacturing them again but they seem to be too busy making their line of AR rifles.

Their rep at Perry told us they had 42,000 rifles on back order! This being election year and Obama causing a lot of fuss with the already in office anti-gun Democrats has got many in a buying spree!

We paid $425 for the DPMS 22 dedicated uppers with a heavy SS 1x16 twist 20" Wilson barrel. Complete with one magazine. They function great and shoot very accurately and dependable with target grade ammo. Some did have an issue with the Jewell triggers in their lowers when using this upper. It could have very well been on how they had the trigger set but never a problem with the RRA trigger. One down side was that the action didn't remain open after the last shot. No big deal but I am told that will be addressed on their new up-graded upper.

I would keep practicing with the Mossberg until the election is over and the demand for black rifles settles down.

Compass Lake Engineering (CLE) is the Cadillac of all AR MN rim fire uppers. They run about $1,100.00. They have a float tube for slinging in and NM rear sights.

I bought one of these.   Actually I sent them a left over SR float tube and Blemished LAR A2 upper and they built it up.     I think that it cost me about $700.00 or in that neighborhood.   They gave me some credit on the crappy rear sight that was on my upper and put some nice 1/4's on the rear.

It has helped me more than you can imagine.

With gas at $3.50 per gal and having to burn 9 gals to go practice vs 1 that's a savings of $28.00 per wk in fuel.

Ammo Fed bulk which happens to really shoot good out of this upper.  $12.00 /550 as opposed to .223 @  $135/ 500 if I realod it  = $ 123 Savings

So I figure that I'm getting aprox $235/month.  So the thing is really almost paid off in 5 months or less.

These are rough estimates and no it doesnt' replace the recoil of the .223.   However the position, sight picture/alignment,  trigger control and follow through are all the same. (read basics.)

Yep, Frank built me one and it is a godsend.  highly accurate and I use my lower which gives me the exact trigger feel for HP.  ammo is cheap.  CLE all the way
