I'm stuck in an area with no easily accessible range, and cannot shoot on the family property. SO, I am looking for low cost options to keep practice going.
.22 is right out Only thing I can think of is airsoft and honestly I hate that stuff. Any ideas from the hive? |

airsoft.
And really, if you actually put some money into it, and get some nice equipment... airsoft is nothing to scoff at. It is a very good training tool. Problem is it was originally marketed to the paintball and children community. If it was originally presented as a training tool it would be much more popular than it is now. Only issue with airsoft would be the blowback. If you say were training with a .22lr conversion kit... ideally after your training session you would blow through a hundred rounds or so of normal ammo, just to have your body used to the increased kick and keep your muscle memory in the right place. Airsoft has this same issue. Ideally you would want to shoot off some live rounds after a day of training to readjust. |

Hate to say it, but I'll probably need to look at airsoft. Who makes a good blowback Ar?
Also what the heck is a snap in? Or was he meaning snap cap? Ordering some magpul dummies soon. ETA: Holy god some of that airsoft stuff is expensive. Dry firing it is. I cant afford that currently. |

The first week is "grass week" where they "snap in" then they shoot the second week. |

Magpul makes great stuff but the black dummy rounds are hard to find after use. I prefer the orange ones as they're easier to recover.
The Blade Tech training bolt might be a good thing to get your manipulations down. |

Thats a neat little gizmo. Figure I havent been to the range in 8 months (between winter in AK and the move to HI) so I might have to pick one of those up when funds permit. I havent been able to find the orange dummies anywhere though. Where did you find some? ETA: Duh, I'm smart enough to follow the image data

Could you use empty cartridges with live primers and paraffin wax projectiles? I wish, but no. I am technically out of city limits in an agricultural area,(so legally i can fire) but have neighbors within 50 yards that wouldnt appreciate that much noise. Yes, I know primers arent loud per se but its still louder then they'd like. |

Why not apply for and obtain a silencer if you want to shoot actual rounds in your situation. With sub sonic ammo, i bet the neighbors would barely hear it. He's in Hawaii. If I were back in ak, I'd be in the yard shooting whatever. 2 months I've been here and haven't had a chance to shoot. |

If I recall a place called Magnum Shooting Sports or something along that line was where I bought my first hand gun and shot there. http://khscinfo.kawamaekreations.com/ |

Airsoft. +1000 I live on 85 acres and have my own range. But I also have 3 airsoft guns in AR-15 configuration similar to my real gun. Don't laugh. You can do A LOT of training with airsoft guns. Especially force on force. Very different from walking towards a static target shooting. When you add a enemy who can think/move/shoot back, it adds total different aspect to your training. Advice: Get the most expensive gun you can get and get the low capacity magazines. |
