I had an idea when I was on active duty but I couldn't get anyone to listen. Since there are MREs are available during every deployment, I thought about having the company that sells the MREs to the military print a zero target on one side of the box. Either an actual M16/M4 zero target or just use the E-type silhouette sized to replicate a 25 meter target. Similar to the E-type silhouettes on the M60/M249 alternate record fire target. Anohter option is to make a template and spray paint the zero target onto the MRE box while deployed. No need to haul targets to a combat zone. That way, any soldier can confirm or rezero his weapon while deployed with an MRE box filled with rocks, dirt, or sand. Any thoughts on this? |

It would make a ton of sense to put on the otherwise unused back side of the mail mail boxes... or the outside packaging on the carboard itself. It's a great idea... although a stencil makes more sense, I can't see anybody higher up realizing the utility of this enough to change any equipment around, and since the MRE's we're going through now are already old, the difference won't be noticed for a couple years anyway. |
Put a smiley face on the target. Seriously, you can make do with just the 4cm circle from the center of the zero target. It would just be a 4cm black dot in the middle of the side of the box. In a combat zone, I don't need to count my clicks for battle sight zero, which has pretty much gone away anyway. Just keep adjusting till the rounds hit the circle. |
