Saw one tom today at about 200 yds  in one of my fields. No gobbling. Since opening day, I've only seen 3 other hens. Coyotes had a field day with the turkeys during late winter. Last year me, my friend and his son took 5 big toms off of my property in the first 4 days.

Looking good guys!

I know there are some large toms around my area. We've heard quite a few gobbles, just can't seem to get them to come our way. The birds are being very cautious around here.

Here are some jakes that my hunting buddy helped harvest during youth weekend:

Gonna try a new spot tomorrow.

Went Upstate to my Uncle's place in Otsego Co. where we usually have turkeys all over the place.  Heard one gobble on Saturday but no luck getting him to answer calls or come in.  Never heard another bird all weekend!  Not sure if it was the bitter winter, coyotes or fishers (or a combo of all three) but it was the worst opening weekend in memory for both of us.  Only heard one shot all weekend too and it generally sounds like a war zone.

I went out Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Lots of calling on the roost, but they were all henned up on the roost, and went quiet on the ground.   I'm going to wait two weeks before going out again, the hens should start nesting by then, and the gobblers will be actively looking for more.

Went out Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Called one in for my girlfriends father Friday morning but it wouldn't come in. I told him not to shoot. It was just a hair over 50 yards. Sunday we got set up on a bird and I think there was other people in the woods where they weren't supposed to be as there was a truck on the next piece of property and the bird was coming right at us and all of the sudden it shut up and the next time it gobbled it was probably 200 yards away. When we got back to the road the other truck was gone. My thinking is that they heard the bird gobble on the roost, walked across a wide open field to get to the patch of woods we were in, and tried to stalk the bird and got busted by the tom. Then they dragged ass when they heard us calling. We had a perfect set up and the bird was coming to us for sure. Needless to say it was a frustrating weekend.

Friday called a nice one in for a friend. He missed. Did not have his turkey choke in and using 2 3/4 pheasant loads.

Saturday called in a jake for another friend. He was properly equipped but shot over the head.

Sunday birds very quiet.

Yesterday finally alone. Had one gobble on the roost called him in twice. First time he came in silent looked around and left out of range.

Got him back an hour later this time he was all worked up white head gleaming red neck flaming gobbling his ass off,
Man I was stoked. Four deer showed up and him and the deer danced around a bit and he left. He was just at 50. I stood up and got rid of the deer. He gobbled one more time and left.

I need new friends.

And deer wonder why I'm do hard on them in the fall.

Are pucks a legal method of taking game? Brand new hockey stick to the little man on me if he takes a Tom with a puck to the head and catches it on video.
