So as promised I will be attempting to spur on discussion about our country's original diehards. We will today attempt to discuss a great man, who in may ways, is directly responsible for our beloved 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution.
This man is unfortunately cast aside in todays history books because he was adamant that the federal Government was a bad idea. He was a true believe in the power of the individual statehood of the colonies and wished that ANY form of centralized government be second to the will of the individual states. Obviously this is COMPLETLEY the opposite of what we have today. But what I will talk about with you (to the best of my feeble ability) is his dedication to the rights of the citizens of America. It was only through his insistence that we have our Citizens' Bill of Rights. We have our Amendment Rights because this man saw the evil that a federal Government would come without the checks and balances of the common citizen. One day in the Virginia Constitutional Convention (where they would decide if they liked the US Constitution in its current form or not) he was ridiculed for his insistence that every American born would have the right to own a firearm. Check this parallel! He was scoffed at and asked why any citizen would need to be armed when they had already advocated for a standing army for the protection of the citizenry. He was advocating for a civilian volunteer force. His response? "I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them." Funny, but don't we hear this same damn argument in the halls of congress today? Is it fucking groundhog day??? Come on guys join the discussion. Ask a question! I will always try to answer with a good factual response. and anyone who can should contribute to this mans legacy. Lets go! |

Man I gotta say, I expected that this type of stuff would provoke much more conversation from our armchair commandos on here! So many of us spout of the very words of our Constituion but it would seem there is very little interest in the people who made it happen!
That's right....I'm baiting you now. some one tell me what they know about George Mason! And no one better start talking about the Party School rankings either. |

He was an evil white-man, slave owning jerk, so everything else he did must have been wrong as well. Just kidding! But that must be what is taught in college campuses these days.
The brilliance of the 9th and 10th amendments have really popped out at me, during these last few years. The move away from respecting them will be a major part of this nation's downfall. |

The brilliance of the 9th and 10th amendments have really popped out at me, during these last few years. The move away from respecting them will be a major part of this nation's downfall. Rumored to be the second largest slave owner in the Virginia area. Here's the fun part about that: he wanted the slave trade abolished. He didn't want anymore to come to this country. But he did not want to ban slavery all together. Because he was so astute, he knew that slavery would die out in this country on its own. People today like their revisionist history, so they like to say he was just another slave owner. What I find hilarious is that today, most "experts" in the field of eugenics and American slave culture agree that he was right and that slavery would have become unsustainable and died out naturally. But don't let that stop you! Just watch the movie "Lincoln." That abomination which won an Oscar or two continues to push the idea that the evil southern states fought a war over slavery and that Abraham Lincoln gave a shit about them. Only thing that war was fought over was the ability to secede from the Union. Anyway, George Mason is the reason we have a 2nd amendment in more ways than one. Come on guys this should be interesting to all of you |

Now to continue lets put this in common terms again so no one misses it. The Federalist Party is our equivalent to the far left Democratic Party today. The anti federalist party could probably be brought parallel to the modern day Tea Party wing of the Republicans. We are talking about one group that wanted the centralized federal government to be the rule makers, and the other party who wanted a very limited form of Federal government which would always remain subservient to the will of the individual states. The idea behind this was genius really: if you didn't like what the rules were in one state, you could move to another. No federal activist judge could rule the land from a single chair.
Please chime in with your thoughts and observations |

Because I am bored and also because my daughter has finally decided to stop screaming tonight, I have decided that I shall pontificate further on George Mason, or one of our Father's of our Bill of Rights (the other was James Madison.)
So George Mason was born in Fairfax, Virginia. He was from a wealthy powerful family in the new world. His father died young (boating accident actually) so he was raised by his mother, but also his wild card in life: His uncle John Mercer. His uncle had a MASSIVE library for the time...we are talking like 1000 books and that is where shy little George spent most his time. But more importantly (and bear with me here) there is strong evidence that John was a closet Catholic. He was from Dublin and he saw the persecution of Catholics by the British first hand. We know that they spent so much time together, and that John helped form George into what he was. We also know that George married a Catholic woman for his second wife (political suicide folks, and that's no exaggeration) and protected Catholics from persecution in Virginia. So if the man was compassionate to a group of people in Virginia and even the rest of the colonies that had little security and even less rights, it would serve to consider that he felt it necessary to protect ALL citizens from the mob rule. That is precisely why he HATED the idea of a centralized government with any sort of regulatory power over the States. He actually said that the constitution in its current form was an "abomination" to the rights of the individual citizens. He said "I would sooner chop off my right hand than put it to the Constitution as it now stands." And that was after he got the Bill of rights added! He was a prophetic individual. He foretold the collapse of citizens rights under our current system, and he feared the inevitable growth of the Federal government into a "monarchy" or "dictatorship." Think about this guys. 1776 and George mason knew that the liberal American which we now have would eventually be unleashed, because the federal government would be influenced so heavily by special interest groups. 1776 and he saw it. Are we asleep? |
