Good Evening Fellow NYers,
I am new here. Been reading for a while but it became time to join, I want to build an AR legally here in NY. I posted something in the main forum and was directed here. What are my options? Can u still buy a stripped lower? Can we still purchase ammo online? I want to build something nice. All high end parts. I wanna build three identical ones and give one to each of my brothers. They have been there for me through a lot of bull crap and want to do something nice but also don't want us all sharing a jail cell. Any guidance is really appreciated. Thanks |

Let's blow through some formalities before I address your question, don't do anything illegal, don't try to skirt the laws because they will go after you anyway if it is arguably close enough to get another statistic in their favor, be advised that there are no more personal face-to-face sales in New York without a background check and no one here is going to be taking solicitations to buy/sell seriously. If by some chance you aren't a member of law enforcement or government or a politically affiliated organization looking to make headlines, I'll give you one piece of solid advice for the moment, take your brothers to the gun store and buy yourselves something besides a set of ARs, I'm partial to WWII era antiques, but there are lots of nice things out there, or move to a better state, the AR game is over in New York for the foreseeable future. |

Thanks IF you've "Been reading for a while " then you'd already know that it can't be done thanks to the un-SAFE act. If you want a semi-automatic rifle that kind of, sort of looks like the formerly legal AR-15 then go to one of the Dealers making them. No one here (or most of the State for that matter) likes, agrees, or supports that complete and utter bullshit that was rammed up our asses last January under color of Law. HOWEVER we will NOT say, do, or disclose anything that may be construed as illegal or questionable. 
Yes you can still buy stripped lower receivers as they are nothing more than a serial numbered part, but be ware having a complete lower and a semi-automatic upper receiver construes "intent" which is enough to make you Bubba's guest bitch. |

In terms of giving you positive advice, yes you can buy ammo online until mid January, so you have a few months before that's over too. There are other semi-auto rifles that would not be banned by SAFE, and just subject to the magazine restrictions. Like Mini-14, some configurations of the M-14 (LRB does one) and the Browning BAR. Stuff with no pistol grip, collapsible stock, bayonet lug, flash suppressor, etc. |

The only difference is less ergonomics for the user and possibly more chance of an accident happening (to the user who as we know is most likely going to be a good law abiding person like one of us). But if anybody with evil in their heart brought one of those ugly ass "legal" ARs into a crowded place and started shooting it would be just as bad. It's only a matter of time until they come after all semi-autos via a total ban and confiscation. This is why we must take a stand now. Make no mistake, they are coming for our guns.
