In talking with the rep. she informed me if I droped the HD and just went with basic I wound be paying even MORE WTF?

Maybe I should just  switch to DISH...What say ye?

Satellite internet?  Haven't had sat TV service in years but it was always a huge PIA during inclement weather.  That said, Cable is just a bigger Sat dish somewhere else...I think no matter what you do you'll be getting fleeced.

Steve, I have had both. Direct TV and Time Warner.
I can only speak for myself and my business. I love the Dish. I have had it at the house for about 5 years now and it might of gone down 3 or 4 times, but even if I loose the chan. I was on I just surf around for a diff feed. I also just converted a 100 room hotel over to Direct, its only been up and running for about 9 mths now but I have had zero issues, and no guest complaints. I got so sick of TW and there bills and price jumps, shit service and asshole customer service reps on the phone. I had the satellite  Wi-Fi also, its ok if your not going to do anything but surf, Netflix's is hit or miss and video games are not going to happen. So I use Frontier's dsl at the moment.

This.  All day.

I told Time Warner to take a hike over a year ago.  It is physically impossible for me to watch $160 worth of TV per month, considering I'm only 1 person and work 9-10hrs a day.  It's just not worth it.

I switched to RCN and now pay $35/mo for internet only, plus $8 bucks for Netflix.   I use a Mohu Leaf HD antenna to grab my local channels off-air.  That's just about all the sedentary entertainment my free time can handle.

Anything else of interest I can torrent stream legally.

Can you get fios ? As a option there fiber connection to your house is rock solid.  I pay 167 a month for 150 meg down 75 meg up and for alll channels on one box.  We don't watch enough tv hopefully with the new ps 4 comming out you might see my options to buy stations directly and stream over the Internet
