Rochester Tech Park
2402 Innovation Way Bldg #4 Rochester, NY 14624 April, 6-7 2013 NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT AT THE DOME! New Location! Flyer: http://www.esaca.us/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Scan0017.pdf Bad news of course is that black rifles will be virtually non-existent thanks to Cuomo's unSAFE act. Components, accessories, etc are OK though. Good news is that there is room for lots more tables, and the previous limitation on dealers' quantity of tables is relaxed. January show had lots more room than the old Dome show, and was packed. Who's going? Is there a favored lunch spot yet (1201?) |

I'll be there all weekend, and the youngest son is coming too (there's a BMX bike park near Biekirchs he goes to)
Lunch? if this show is where near as busy as the last one. I'll be luck to get away to pee let alone go out for Lunch. Dinner might be an option, but I divert back to the bmx park for the boy. http://r-a-s-p.com/ If we come down Friday afternoon, perhaps then? |

I think anyone who expected "same old" is foolish.
First, there's virtually no ammo left in USA. The dealers have sold what they have for the most part. Second, ditto for black guns. Besides which, NYS now prohibits sale. So what did you expect? That said, I saw a number of guns walk out the door in boxes, so somebody was buying. I managed to buy a nice lot of ammo at half the asking price. Maybe it has to do something with having established relationships and not being Lowball Joe always shopping to save ten cents. Also scored some nice accessories; not AR15 of course, you can buy those on Ebay or here. I think a prototype handguard for $5 is a pretty good steal, don't you? Was also offered a waffenampt FN HighPower, no finish, for $350 which I think I'm going to buy later. Of course, this wasn't on a table, it was walking around in a backpack offered only to discerning buyers. If you want to have a great time at gunshows and score good deals, this lull in the market is an excellent time to get to know the dealers and make friends. |

I'd have been very tempted. An interesting gun with some interesting provenance. I've seen Browning 1922's with waffenampts. I would expect the show to be pretty lackluster on "deals" for the time being, with the exeption of collectors guns and artifacts and maybe some typical hunting rifles. Anything black, tacticool, sniperish, or even semiautomatic is going to be expensive or nonexistent. I toyed with the idea of going to look for more casting stuff. The last 2 shows in Syr I picked up some odds and ends that were reasonable like the as new and unused RCBS lead pot for about 1/2 price and some old molds. Even that corner of the guncrank world has been hard hit by the frenzied paranoia. You can't buy a mold to save your buttocks now. In fact guys are selling their used or easily replaceable molds on evil bay for more than they're worth new. Lee 9mm molds for over a $100. Geesh! I don't blame them for offloading their dusty stuff. fp1201, if I was thinking I should have sent my 8mm and 7.62x54R ammo for you to sell off. I thought of that after I left your house. I'm more into casting my CnR ammo than shooting the corrosive non reloadables now. More fun. |

I was half tempted to get one of those 53's, they were in pretty good shape. One guy had some Marlin 60's priced reasonably. Ended up just getting some slings, swivels and a few cleaning supplies. I did come across one table and bought a few of these I had to have for family and friends :)

I saw one brick of 500 .22's with a $78 price tag (I know it's like that everywhere but ) ... depressing...
I feel bad for anyone new that wants to get into the shooting sports now... Dark times Yes, terrible time to get into guns...particularly for those who sat on the fence for years and all of a sudden got the fear and have to buy. Ammo dealers were estatic. Made heaps of money. Ripoff! Some say. Well, tough beans. Should have bought ammo last year. Ammo will come down again some day. Not fifteen cents a round, maybe not thirty. But fifty cents will come again. I saw two VEPRs for IIRC $1500 each, which in today's market is pretty good. And, NY legal. Yeah, we used to laugh at $1500 TIGRs too. And no fool would have paid $700 for a PSL three years ago. A gal at work overheard some of talking. She said her son has a Mosin-Nagant and wants ammo. But gunshops want $1 per round, and he can't afford it. I told her he should go to the show, it would be half that. "Oh, he probably won't make it he has track meets." I found it at the show for .25/round. Tough beans Junior. Wanna go run around, then pay the buck and shut up. I just don't get the "gun show sucked" crowd. I've not been to a show I couldn't spend a grand and flip the stuff next week for double. At KCR I paid $210 for a box of stuff I sold for $1500. Maybe they're looking for cheap ARs and AKs. Well, those are sold. Or Magpul stuff...well, duh, order it off the internet. Van Tassel's had a gorgous S&W 41 last year...just sold it. It was a steal. What's a 41? Well, guess there is more to learn. Was offered a FN HP 1943 w/ waffenamt for $350. I'll go back to the seller and grab that if it's available. I usually take a bag of stuff with me. And I give it away. In return, sometimes years later, when I find something on a table I want I ask the price and I get the wave. Not the "go away" wave but "just take it wave." Like I said, I scored a 50 can full of ammo at less than half asking price. Yes, at this show. A buddy at the show was estatic because he went looking for a particular lever action and found it at half current value. Talk about stupid happy. Yeah it was a tough show. Offerings were limited. But for those not looking for commercial jewelry, the rare gems can be had for a song. |

The Attorney General was there. Lots of news cameras and muscle around him. Over priced everything. I did buy a nice range bag for $20. Schneiderman tours Rochester gun show, announces new agreements with gun show operators |
