I have no idea of the number of homes or the number of people in NY state who legally own firearms. However large or small that number may be, it is impossible for the authorities (whomever they may be) to implement an unconstitutional law unless the gun owners themselves cooperate and follow the mandate to register all "assault weapons".
History has shown, time and time again, that gun registration is followed by gun confiscation. Gun confiscation leads to the certain loss of personal liberty and freedom. I know that the vast majority of gun owners are not "sheeple", and believe in the God given right of self protection. Governor Cuomo, who has a law degree, knows very well that our 2nd Amendment has absolutely nothing to do with hunting, but the opportunity presented by the tragic occurrence in Conn. is beyond the hoplophobic politician's wet dream of not letting a crisis (in this case a manufactured one) go to waste. Civil disobedience is a non violent and civil way of refusing. What if one year from now, when the ban takes effect, NO ONE COMPLIES. The authorities, whom ever they may be, have no way of enforcing this unconstitutional law. What are they going to do with tens of thousands of individuals who refuse to become sheeple? We are all in this together! |

If you get caught with a rifle you haven't registered after the date it would be pretty easy to enforce it, you'll be arrested. They won't go door to door. They'll just charge people as they come across them. |

We are all in this together! CANADA PASSED C68 REGISTRATION OF ALL LONG GUNS CANADIANS DIDN'T REGISTED CANADA DROPPED THE LAW . Registration of firearms in Canada has been an issue since the 1930s when the registration of handguns became mandatory. Over the past few decades, legislation had become increasingly restrictive for firearm owners and from 1995 until 2012, all firearms were required to be registered. As of April 6, 2012, the registration of non-restricted firearms is no longer required in any province or territory, except for Quebec, pending litigation. AND AR15 RIFLES ARE LEGAL IN CANADA ! |
| Sounds good not to comply, but then they have won, you can't take the gun out and shoot and enjoy it without risk of arrest. They won't come house to house, it will be as the gun is found relating to some other call or someone else who knows will turn you in. We have to keep up the fight to try and over turn this and those that voted for it out of office, I know very hard fight, but that's where we find ourselves. |

Look at COBIS... didn't work, it was un-funded and dsimantled.
Same here, they have need for that money for more pressing issues. This law is only as effective as our compliance. Time is on our side on this one. IF WE COMPLY IT WILL HAVE DRASTIC NATIONAL IMPLICATIONS Strategically, it is better for America that we resist on this so Cuomo can't point to this as a success on his way to the Whitehouse. Read the law at the end of the addendum period and decide for yourself. On this, we must act collectively and support each other, act as one! ARAB SPRING for GUN OWNERS! I'd propose a flash mob-protest for anyone who gets caught out of compliance. Identify zones in the state for this QRF Quick Reaction Force for immediate action. http://regionalcouncils.ny.gov/ Social media the shit out of this, coalesce, we outnumber them! Non-violent Civil Disobedience! |

my county is going under the "what law? huh I forget what is going on, whatever" form of enforcement. Actually very similar to the previous AWB. Yea until there is a DV call and the sheriff has to go take someones guns away and finds an unregistered AW. Then its clobbering time. |

Read the law fully and you may come to the same conclusion, not to comply.
I don't want to spell it out on an open forum. Unless the law has been amended, you will understand. At this time, we must wait until the 30 day adendum period has passed and the law codified. |

My feeling is that registration will NEVER happen. They will not have the ability to get the systems up and running by then and it will just slowly die on the vine.
If this is to be ready by next year, then there must be a Software firm working on this software right now, or a firm who already licenses this type of software. |

Quoted: Quoted: Do we really think this will be enforced. The average cop is probably against this "law." My local cops would definitely enforce it and the only thing they've been against with the law is that they're not exempted from it. You must be a fellow Long Islander ![]() |

Here is the text from the NY State Civil Rights
§ 4. Right to keep and bear arms. A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms cannot be infringed. It's even STRONGER than our Constitution. |

An old high school friend of mine texted me today to ask some legal questions. He's a detective with the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department and is also on their SWAT team. I asked him what he thought about NY SAFE. "It's bullshit. They should throw money at tracking down the thousands of registered handguns that have been lost or stolen rather than registering or outlawing more guns. I can't remember the last time I investigated a crime committed with a legally possessed gun." "The new gun laws will be like the adultery laws... No one will enforce them." |

It's even STRONGER than our Constitution. I'd like to hear more about this, I was wondering about it yesterday, vs. Heller/McDonald. It's in the NY Civil Rights law. It's not in the NY State Constitution, like in most other states. States that have in their Constitution tend to be more gun friendly. |

Only the SCOTUS can stop a civil war.
Question 46 in the wide-ranging survey of more than 1,000 registered voters asks if there is a gun in the household. Overall, 52 percent of the respondents said yes, someone in their home owned a gun. That number included 65 percent of Republicans, 59 percent of conservatives, 38 percent of Democrats and 41 percent of liberals.
But on to Question 47, addressed to those with a gun in their home: "If the government passed a law to take your guns, would you give up your guns or defy the law and keep your guns?" The response: 65 percent reported they would "defy the law." That incudes 70 percent of Republicans, 68 percent of conservatives, 52 percent of Democrats and 59 percent of liberals. Lets read that again : 52 percent of Democrats and 59 percent of liberals would defy the law and keep their guns. See, there's the problem. As someone on this forum said, "some folks like to shoot and some folks like to sit at home and think they can shoot."
If you're the type that plays with your rifle while watching Tv at home, where it sits 362 days a year, ignoring the law is a simple matter. If you're an avid shooter, or say a competitive shooter who travels the state (and surrounding states) to shoot its a whole 'nother matter. Your not exactly "low profile". I could do nothing and try and wait it out like COBIS. That was 10-11 years? If I'm going to have to hide them for 10 years (or the rest of my life) I might as well sell them and refocus myself on another discipline. We've got to get this nonsense stricken from the books ASAP or we're done for in the short and long term. |
|
If you are an avid shooter, you would have more than one type of firearm.
So, resisting registration isn't keeping anyone from shooting per se'. Competition shooters, I understand the dilemma. That may require some creativity. Given that the law is not in its final form, we must wait and see. |
