Had a preban lower and M4 Style upper with flashider and Bayonet lug.

Say the writing on the wall and sold the lower to MA  just before xmas. Funded a new lower and helped pay for my troy carbine.

Anyhow took the M4 lower to my gunsmith to have it made  "compliant"  was told the flash hider had a bead of weld all the way around it and cannot be taken off without being milled....alot of work.

What should I try to do with it?  Attempt to sell it and find another upper...quickly?

Uppers and parts in my area are non existant, so it would have to be online.

Anything you own is OK as long as you register it, in whatever previously legal configuration in may have been.

The ATF considered a pinned, welded and soldered flash hider/comp/brake as part of the barrel, negating the threads since it could not be readily restored.

If you are looking to be ban complaint not to register, buy a new barrel with a target crown.

I'd you are looking to own it, leave it alone and register it. You have a fricken year.

Well it was legal when it was on a preban lower...which I do not have any longer. Now it would set on a regular lower and would assume would not be leagal since its a non compliant flash hider even though it is welded on very well.

Welding? is one way to make comp, however i hope he was talking Silver Soldered and not welded.  The other way is to blind pin it, which you can do yourself. Drill and tap one of the flats on your comp, i suggest a 6/32 thread. Do it on a slight angle so once done the set screw will be in to the threads not allowing it to turn off. Then once you drill & tap mark on the bbl where it will touch the threads,  dremel or drill in to the threads enough the set screw sits in to the bbl a little. Then have someone run a quick plug weld over the hole. This will then give you a permanently attached NY (for now ) comp upper.  OR as mentioned swap the bbl for a ban (94 awb) era bbl.

I would keep the upper and sent it to ADCO to have to FH removed and replaced with a brake.

But dont compensators of any kind require registration, and are only legal on already owned pre jan 13 lowers?  If he buys a non assault weapon lower, it has to be attached to a non compensator upper.

Thats my problem/question...  Its a non compliant flash hider as it sits and will not come off without a lot of work or expense on my part.  If I still had the preban lower I think I could leave it be,,,I think,,but I do not.

I guess I could just look to buy a similar barrel and sell the one I have. However leaning toward not doing anything and saying fuck it.

ADCO can do what you need.  I think he's backed up about 12 weeks, but you should be gtg.
