| Has anyone seen any of the "custom" 6920's like the Magpul MOE or the Socom for sale in a Walmart in NY? |

not yet. But supposedly Dicks is selling Troy Ind. NY complaint AR15's in their stores all mil spec decked out. 1k price I think. Troy Ind. has info on their website with prices. You are correct i saw one on Sunday at the Poughkeepise store i was very surprised to see it there. They had a stag 895 i think and M&P there also. |

Saw 4 different AR15s in my local Dicks (Greece, NY) store while picking up a shotgun on Sunday.
Was busy and could only get a look from across the counter. 3 had "muzzle devices/brakes" one had a plain thin barrel. Actually one looked like a phantom style "brake". All had M4gery style stocks - apparently pinned open or fixed. Prices ranged from $700-$849. Funny 10+ years ago Dicks salesman told me they only sold "sporting guns" no ARs! I am glad things have changed. I think a lot of it is due to us spending and making the AR15 platform a hot demand item that makes profit that the big box stores cannot deny any more. They want in on our money! Funny how that turned out. |

|
Yep! 40 minute checkout process with the normal 4473 and the Dicks liability forms, photocopy your DL, etc. Barely above teenage manager inspects the purchase reads through the paperwork pretending to know what he is looking at, triple checks your ID, asks you where you were born and where do you live 2 times. When they finish - Manager walks you through checkout out carrying the gun until you are out the back door to the parking lot.

ETA: Should try that in an open carry state and really blow their minds... |

Didn't finger bang it so no idea if it was pinned. It is pinned. With a troy claymore muzzle brake that is pinned with a 1/7 mil spec barrel and the new troy rails. http://www.troydefense.com/firearmsaccessories/troy-5-56-carbine/ |

Can anyone recommend a private shop which stocks ar's within an hour from newburgh? I don't feel like doing the perp walk. Thurway Sporting Goods in Walden (15 minutes from the Burg). Also, not sure if they're still open, but Civil Armory in Pleasant Valley would be about 45min. Both are pretty good shops. |

Quoted: Walmart does the whole escort you out thing too. Walmart also videotapes every firearm transaction and stores all your 4473 forms along with the videos in a firearm customer database. If the ATF requests a trace it is immediately available in digital form to the ATF. In addition if a trace is ever requested on a gun you purchased you will be denied any future gun purchases even if you the gun in question was sold or stolen. |

You know I often wondered about the database a private firm sustains. My local guy who I do most transactions keeps 4473s locked up. After all it contains SS# and DOB right? When I was leaving Dicks' last week I asked the manager to bring the "paperwork" with him - he started to leave it unattended at the counter - Gee you would think they would have to have training and secure methods for securing SS#s, etc. I wonder if Dicks, Wal-mart, etc. is sustaining legal confidentiality of such records - notifying customers the personal information is retained and how/when it is used. If they are doing things in a manner above and beyond what is specified by ATF, one wonders if they are taking the required legal safeguards and privacy rights.

Anyone know any other dealers that stock ARs ? |
