Can anyone recommend a decent flip-open tanto.  Something like this one by CRKT.  I would prefer one made in USA.

Emerson Knives CQC-7  (Or a CQC-6 if you can find one for sale and have a spare $1500).  Get one with the Wave feature, and it will open itself when you remove it from your pocket.  Emerson won't ship directly to NY due to the horseshit with the NYC DA, but you can buy them at lots of online retailers.

I won't buy anything emerson after he decided to run away like a dog with his tail between his legs from the NYC DA- HIS WEBSITE SAYS THEY WILL NO LONGER SHIP TO NY STATE

+1, mr blackshamrock, honor and warrior, blah blah blah doesn't believe in practicing those principles in our current times and life, he's must be waiting for the "real" battle, to start living by some code of chivalry.

If you won't stand up to some BS DA, you won't stand up when it really goes down either.

There are a ton of manufacturers that will no longer ship to NY.  Add Spyderco to that list.  There are more, but none come to mind at the moment. I agree, the whole not shipping to NY is chickenshit.  The problem is that, in my opinion, there aren't many good factory built knives anymore.  Most of them are built using junk materials, in China.

To the OP, if you want something you can kick the shit out of, and don't want an Emerson (which was my original recommendation), your two best choices in my mind are either a Strider, or a Chris Reeve.  Both make tantos, although it's tougher to find a Chris Reeve with a tanto blade.  My EDC folder is a Sebenza, and has been for years.  I also have a Strider SnG with a Tanto Blade, and a Strider GB.  Both are about as tough as you can get.  The GB is kinda massive though.  The Chris Reeve would likely be more pocket friendly, and certainly more aesthetically pleasing.  You might also consider something from Zero Tolerance.

I really like the Ken Onion Designs. The only problem I have with the blur is I don't like using a thumb stud on an AO. I think its way to easy to cut a thumb in half. you apply some force to the stud and  the AO spring open and your thumb due to the force you were just using on the stud also follows right behind it now that the blade is no longer static but opening on its own power... just my opionon but it made me nervous, I much prefer AO that have a small spine hitch for opening.

I also used to carry a Strider or a Sebenza, and I finally found what i think may be the last edc kinfe I will use for a very very long time.

The Zero Tolerence 0400 tanto. All the quality and toughness that makes a Strider a strider combined with the very best AO system of any knife maker on teh market. The KAI..

3.75 inches of a real mean Tanto out of S30v stainless and a very nice matte black Tungsten coating.
Allows for tip up or tip down carry. and uses trac tec inserts on the handle which bite a little more than g10 but they are dfinately the grippiest surface i've seen besides diy stippling and the like.

Its a great great knife.

BS

Numerous companies won't sell knives, ammo, legal-here magazines and firearms in NYS. It's good business sense if you don't feel being individually named in a suit by NYS/NYC and having to pay legal bills out of the ass. If you're so hellbent on looking for people to rail at start with Home Depot, Eastern Mountain Sports, Paragon, Orvis and several other companies that have presence in NYS and willingly coughed up 1.9 million dollars to pay for VAnce's illegal knife education program. They did thei collectively rather than get sued/criminally charged by Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance.

I guess you say screw Ronnie Barrett too as he won't do business with California over their gun laws?
