Hey guys, I recently picked up a Mini 14 in a trade and had a few quick questions on legality as usual. As of now its in stock form and has a wood stock, no threads/comp/FI on barrel, etc. I want to put either a tapco or tactical solutions stock on it but I believe they come with collapsible stocks and pistol grips. Would this be legal or would I need to find a fixed stock since that would equal 3 "evil" features( detachable mag, pistol grip, collapsing stock). Btw im in NY (not NYC).

Thanks,

You would need to either find a fixed stock or have the stock permanently pinned in place.

So its not pre-94? Heres a good guide to the "EVIL" features.http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/NYSL.pdf

The Mini-14 can still have another evil feature in NY... use it wisely.   Personally, I'd pick threaded muzzle over the pistol grip or adjustable stock so I could use comps.  More useful than tactic00l Tapco furniture.

If you dislike wood, Hogue makes a really nice factory style stock.

Don't forget to bring plenty of these targets to the range to keep it sited in!

lol yea so ive heard. Just picked it up kinda as a spare for a friend or buddy to shoot when I go to the range. Actually picked up the Hogue overmolded stock instead of the Tapco, later on I'll try one of those barrel stabilizers and add a comp.

There's a mini 14 forum now, although the usual cracks about minis are not welcome. I guess you can get them shooting reasonably well with a little work. I wouldn't bother with another one after my mini 30
