Just got a new 5x8 utility trailer today, and realized that I intend to travel with it on I-90. I use EZ Pass in my truck already, am I good to go or is there an additional fee for the extra axle? Also, my motorcycle will be the cargo on the trailer, is that going to be a problem with them wanting more tolls for technically two vehicles? Their website was not helpful. Thanks guys

Quoted: I dont know if they count that as additional, but maybe calling them tomorrow will help provide additional info, also be aware of turnpikes which are a no go for trailers, Enjoy the new addition! Thanks, I will definitely give them a call tomorrow. I don't plan on going anywhere near a turnpike lol |

Been towing a quad trailer upstate and back for years, never had an issue. |

I traveled w/ a trailer from NY to VA and was told my regular vehicle EZ-Pass covered the trailer. As for the Motorcycle, you shouldn't get banged for an extra "vehicle" as it is loaded on the trailer. If you have a separate EZ-Pass for your motorcycle, make sure you take it off the MCY and wrap it in tin-foil or place it inside the Mylar bag it came in. Again......YMMV.
While we are on the topic of EZ-Pass, a couple of years ago Gov. Pataki came out w/ another tax/fee, that being a $1.00 per month per EZ-Pass fee whether or not you use the EZ-Pass. Pataki had the balls to state that NYers wouldn't mind paying the $1.00 per month for the convenience of having it. www.ezpassva.com is an example of acquiring an EZ-Pass w/o paying the $1.00 per month "convenience tax" that Pataki screwed NYers with. Below is from http://www.ezpassny.com/en/about/terms_ind.shtml Schedule of Deposits/Administrative Fees Per tag deposit (cash and check customers) $10.00 Per tag deposit (credit card customers) waived Cost of tag if defaced, damaged, lost or stolen: Interior $23.00 Exterior $33.00 Returned check fee $25.00 Monthly statement by mail, annual fee $6.00 Duplicate copy of Statement $2.00 PANYNJ monthly Account service fee $1.00 Account revocation fee $25.00 Tag retention fee Up to $25.00 Other Tag misuse/violation administrative fees Up to $50.00 Once again......screw NY and their pick pocketing games. |

I've had EZ-Pass almost since the day it was issued in NYS for the Tappan Zee Bridge. My account number is something like 0000000030x. I was involved in the early focus program before it came in and one of the benefits was the low cost to the agencies honoring it and that it would save them money. Then they scrapped all the tokens, bridge coupons, etc. and have the balls to say they need a $1 maintenance fee because the program costs money! What is never mentioned is the money in your account earns interest for the agency but you do not get it. They do. I have had $30 sitting in my account for years and earning them money. |

i use mine from long island to lewis county every other weekend for quading, never had a problem. ezpass book says go to the manned booths i don't they charge you more.

A vehicle pulling a trailer or a vehicle with more
than two-axles or 4 tires has a different toll classification. Therefore, do not use the unstaffed “E-ZPass Only” lane at MTA B&T, New York State Thruway or New York State Bridge Authority facilities. Use the staffed lane. Commuter discount plans do not apply in these instances and the higher toll will be charged to your account. At Port Authority plazas, you may use either an “E-ZPass Only” or a “Cash/E-ZPass” lane regardless of what you are pulling. That's what E-ZPass says. They can't charge you a toll for a vehicle you aren't driving. The motorcycle would be fine. |

Can I still use my EZ Pass or will I need cash? |

I've always just used cash in tolls when towing a trailer, and put the EZPass in the static bag. |

I see that $1 fee on the ezpass site but it has never shown up in my monthly statements The PANYNJ monthly Account service fee $1.00 is for the users of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey bridges and tunnels. ah I had a feeling the PA stood for something other than Pennsylvania |

In NY with an EZpass and a trailer go through a cash booth. The person in the booth will add the extra charge for the trailer to what is deducted from your account. Anything on the trailer is not charged for. I've done this many times without a problem. ETA: From the ezpass guide book Can a camper or trailer be towed if the E-ZPass tag is being used? If you tow a trailer occasionally, at MTA and Port Authority facilities, you may use any E-ZPass lane. At NYSTA and NYSBA facilities, you must use staffed toll lanes. |

i haven't had any issues expect for garden state parkway in NJ. wouldn't take it . I think they are just pissed because there dumbasses are going to lose there jobs in a couple more years due to ezpass let then fell the pain of real work instead of a cushy union job. |

But I am going to pay more for the trailer? And I need to go to a manned booth? Can I still use my EZ Pass or will I need cash? Take this for what it's worth: Back a few years ago, I let my buddy take my car to Filthadelphia to see his girlfriend, deal was to take my near-empty car and have it full when he got back. Good deal. Anyway, shortly after he leaves Philly, the transmission, which I had just recently rebuilt because the 88-92 ATX transaxles for Ford manufactured in France were notoriously shitty, wouldn't shift into the final drive gear... so he was stuck doing 40 MPH at a million RPM. I hopped into the 92 IDI F-250 diesel, hooked up my uncle's Mid-Atlantic car hauler flatbed, and went down to rescue. On the way down through the PA turnpike, some toll operators charged me for four axles, and some didn't. Same on the way back. I got hit extra for four axles on the way back at a few stops, and some others made me pay the regular amount. Now, since having an EZPass, I've noticed that every time I use the car hauler through an EZ Pass lane, I get the green light, and only the regular toll. I've never received anything in the mail, and I haven't bothered to call them to ask. I figure the nice fat four-digit check I wrote to NY for the crime of working 80+ hour workweeks last year to provide for my family will suffice for any technicalities I'm skirting out of by using EZPass with a trailer. |
| you can pull in to a staffed lane that does both cash and EZPAss. You pull up, the attendant looks out and punches in the toll to charge your EZPass. Not sure if that's how it's really done using passenger toll EZPass but I saw it done as we entered I-80 from the NYS Thruway hauling a pop-up camper. |

I tow mine through and they normally just add the extra axle on to the toll. Some booths in NY have the ability to read axles, but never got "caught" in NJ. If you plan to tow alot it may be worth to just apply for a special ezpass tag.

| I found out the hard way to cover the license plate on a car on a trailer. I had them send me a ticket for a car I was towing on a trailer because the system thought it was following too close to my truck and trying to blow the toll.. Sucked trying to get that straightened out. Now I just put blue painters tape on the plate when the cars on the trailer. |
