| I posted a little while ago and was directed to this forum...hopefully someone can give some info? I am new to the ar world and this state puts a damper on getting any compliant guns in our shops so i decided to build. Does anyone know of any shops in central/upstate NYthat might stock stripped lowers right on the shelves? Name and contact info would be great? The local shops around oneonta have seemed relutant to do FFL transfers??? Again, thanks! |

I don't know where you're shopping, but it's NOT difficut to buy compliant AR's or lowers. Short answer is the State adopted the old Federal AW ban, so other than muzzle brakes, bayonet lugs, and collapsible stocks there's no issue with building or buying an AR-15
Lots of stripped lowers are sold at shows, and a good many dealers stock them. |

Almost correct. Pinned and welded muzzle brakes are fine. It's flash hiders that are a no-go on postban guns. |

What region of the state are you in? If the capital region, B&J Guns (American Shooter Supply) on Central Avenue always has a selection in stock. http://shop.americanshootersupply.com/ 1702 Central Ave Albany, NY 12205 518-862-0266 David |

Sorry, you are correct I ment flash-hider, and that brakes are OK; it was too early in the morning and my brain is dislexic.

good gunshops are getting harder to find in NY I'll agree (my definition of good is a place that has stuff in stock not 5 guns in the rack and a stack of catalogs showing what they can order-at full msrp- next month, has enough ammo in stock that I can go in and say I'll take a CASE of xyand z right now, has reloading components in stock, sells pistols and treat customers well.) but the ones I do go to always have 15 or more ban compliant ar's on the rack and stacks of new in box ones in storage. In my neck of the woods (Buffalo area) there are only about 3 or 4 honest to goodness gun shops in the area, with the following issues in my experience:
Buffalo gun center- almost has all my criteria listed above but has an unfortunately well deserved rep for treating customers like dirt at times- usually customers asking lots of questions because they are new to guns or shooting- not a good way to encourage new shooters whos first interaction with the gun community so to speak may be that first time in a gun shop S&S taxidermy- in springville about 10 mintues from my house- finally starting to get more inventory that is not all about bubba deer hunting, friendly staff but limited ammo inventory (doubt the stock a case of anything except some shotgun shells) and ammo prices are not even close to competitive( if my local dealer has ammo priced say within a buck of the price offered at the big box store I'll give the extra buck to the small local guy- but when the price is 50% or more higher than a chain, I have to draw a bit of line somewhere) Johnson's in Lockport- inventory limited and have had frequent problems with special ordering items and them not showing up. it is also about 60 miles from my house so I don't get there much. I know it is kind of a highjack but does any one know of any other good well stocked gun shops with fair prices in erie cattaraugus or chatauqua counties? |

B&J on Central Ave generally has a bunch of stripped lowers. They change the cases around occasionally, but take a look, you'll find them. If you are leaning more towards retro goodness, just order from NoDak Spud and have it transferred to B&J. Enjoy. David |

I went in there awhile back...(which was last time i went there)...and they said the lowers were not for sale...as they used them to "build guns" on. I asked why they put them in DISPLAY CASES if they arent for sale. They were puzzled. |

I never even considered that they wouldn't sell the lowers in a display case. David |

If you are near Otsego county, there is a guy just opening a new shop in Burlington.
KB firearms Keith 607-437-2835 or email [email protected] He can probably get you anything you need or do a transfer. |

Yeah it was disappointing, as I was interested at the time in buying one or two of the lowers. Ah well. |

Don't know what the fees will be. On nyfirearms he posted that he is open by appointments only right now. Official open date I believe is May 27th. |
