| Ok wanna do a 9mm project. In regards to NY what do you guys think is the best route to go as far a prevalence of mags and such? Basic question is can I modify UZI mags and go that route or are sten mags better? I'll stay away from the colt's due to price. Not sure of the law and how difficult it is to modify the UZI mags. I know about getting the magwell adapter depending on which route I want to go. Anyone have any advise go ahead and fill me in. |

With the crazy prices the magwell adaptors are up to, I'd look into the dedicated 9mm lowers and just build a whole 'nother gun. (yeah... but it will cost you a lot more money in the end, but you'll have a whole 'nother gun. The specs for the mag "conversion" (You're just adding a notch and opening up the rear a tiny bit IIRC. I did a bunch some years back, a pain but not too hard. Dremel cutting wheels, stone and swiss file work) It used to be on the Hahn website, but I don't see it now. I may have it saved somewhere, but you should be able to find it online. It's been too many years... aren't the Sten mag setups for the Oly system? |

no need to modify the uzi mags with that Spikes built me a NY compliant 9mm upper, no bayo lug and a plain crowned muzzle runs great even with cheap russian ammo |

I use the VM HyTech mag well adapter, and don't have to modify the uzi mags. You use the release on the adapter though, not the AR's mag release. I'm very happy with the compromise... + 1 I rarely use my 9mm AR, but the VM HyTech option is great. Pre-ban Uzi magazines are plentiful and there is no modification required. |

Are those adapters still available? I tried to hunt one down earlier this week with no luck, I came to the conclusion that they were out of production? |

Think I am leaning towards the UZI mags, cheap and plentiful. I will have no problem doing the modifications and will probably just get the upper and a magblock for one of my prebans this way I don't have to look over the world and pay extra for a postban version. Eventually I may do a complete upper and lower but for now I'll just go upper and block, I think....
Until I read more and change my mind by the end of the night..... |

keep checking every couple of days when I was getting all the parts together for mine I checked and it was in stock but didn't try to order for a couple days while I was making final decisions. It was out of stock when I finally made up my mind but within a week or two was in stock again |

I buy 32 round uzi mags (IMI) whenever I want, they are readily available. in all seriousness, I would just buy an UZI. |

I don't really want an UZI. I like the AR platform, for now. Any problems proving UZI mags are preban? Preban mags aren't marked with much more than the round count on the sides and maybe a star or 2 digit(letter?) code on them. They are readily available but I don't know how you'd prove their date one way or the other. I think there are post ban 9mm colt AR15 mags out there with the LEO/GOV't markings on them. 50-Pack IMI Uzi Mags with rust! $290 shipped |
