Anyone familiar with any audiologists around Rochester or Syracuse that make custom ear plugs? The only place I know of around Rochester wanted $750 for a set.

This is for shooting, correct? Probably not as good as the $750 set but Cabela's sells a mold able custom set for $14.99.NRR rating of 26db. Part # FB-23-0688. Correct. I used the ones made by Radians which you mold yourself and it resulted in damage to my ears. Now I'm back on foam plugs but really want to be able to use my iPod while I shoot. Ideally I would like to find somewhere with an hour or two of Rochester to have this done. |

Advanced heard aid centers? Looks like they have custom ear plugs and other ear plugs that are for muscians. NRR might be less on the muscian style...
I don't know if thats what you're looking for. Locations in Webster and Greece. Advanced hearing aid centers |

Hey Rich,
When I was at the westchester county gun show a couple of weeks ago there was someone making custom ear plugs and I believe they made them with an option for I-Pods or other listening devices as well. I do not remember the guys business name but he will be there at the next show. |

After using the mold yourself kind and having minor damage to my ears I'd rather stick with an actual doctor making the plugs. I don't want to take a chance at losing my hearing from a set of plugs that don't seal properly. |

Did the earplugs themselves cause damage (while they were setting up?) or did they set up imperfectly and thus exposed to you high pressure levels when you used them? I just ordered some earlier today... : ( They are good plugs if you don't shoot a ton. I was using them for trap shooting and they wouldn't form a seal that would block enough noise out when you have between 20-100+ guns going off at the same time depending on where I was shooting. They were too firm to really conform to the ear canal at all times and this would allow enough noise in that eventually I started getting ear aches and think I had burst an ear drum at one point. This is from shooting 2-3 times a week though and around 12,000 rounds of 12ga last year. |
