For those of you who know I have had my pistol permit for about 1 year and 2 months. It took nearly 14 months to get (Erie County). Since then I have attended numerous MDTS pistol classes, became and NRA Certified Instructor for basic pistol. In April of this year I applied to have my restrictions lifted. Today I got the CONFIRMATION LETTER!!!! I now have an unrestricted carry license.
I will drop by PPO tomorrow to amend my permit to get off those pesky restrictions. |

Congrats! How'd you go about doing it? Apply to have restrictions removed with documented training? A friend of mine is stuck with a restricted permit in Onondaga I wrote a letter regarding my knowledge of article 35, and the rest outlined my qualifications and good moral character. I also attached my training resume where I have over 24 hours of hands on combative pistol training (I have more since then). I included my C&R license and instructor creds. |

I wonder what percentage of permits in the state are unrestricted.
when i go to the range it is very rare to run into someone else with a full carry. Though most are Westchester County.. Putnam Co. made it fairly simple to get the restrictions removed. It took some time to get a court date, but was a strait forward process. |
| pistol permit restrictions for the most part are a geography thing- the closer to a large city you are, the less likely you will have an unrestricted permit, at least without a fight. When I first got my permit in the 1980's in Erie county restricted. I later moved about 30 mile south to the next county away (cattaraugus) all permits here unrestricted. I'd say 90+% of your "rural" counties issue all unrestricted or do not make it hard to "upgrade" after you have had a permit for awhile. The opposite for densely populated counties. |
