OK I own my house unfortunately directly across the street is a rundown shit hole apartment building that houses 8 units full of welfare rats. The owner is a slumlord who doesn't care who lives there or what they do and will always hang up on you when you call with a complaint. They sad thing is he is a cop. To make a long story short. The asshole in the end unit lets its 5 cats run the streets and are constantly having kittens that end up strays. I shit you not because of these people we have a insane stray cat problem.  These cats get into my trash cans all the time making a huge mess, they climb on top of both my wife's and my vehicles and there are scratches all up in down my truck and her jeep I have a set of claw marks were one of these cats slid down my hood and down my drivers side fender. I am pissed what can I do about it legally. I am to the point were I am going to start killing them and throwing them on their porch. Don't get me wrong I know its not the cats fault. I have done my part by adopting two of them having them fixed and getting them shots. But there are at least 15 more.

Couple of live traps and a few trips to the shelter ought to do it...

That or call in the health inspector on the apartment dwellers...

... or do both.

+1 for animal control. They may set up some live traps and with a little food in them they will work amazingly. I work at Dick's Sporting Goods and we sell Have-A-Heart traps, similar to the picture shown above. I think my store has some cheap, clearance and what not.

Check with other local shelters. Some will even lend you the live trap....or put an ad in the paper looking  for someone with a large hungry snake.

It is a violation of the COC to post instructions on committing a crime. Animal Cruelty is especially frowned upon.
I will admit wanting to take matters into my own hands on several occasions when a neighbor isn't being so neighborly in regards to their animals but common sense and common decency always prevailed. It is not the animal's fault that their humans are complete assholes!

All of the local Buffalo shelters are so full of cats they are not taking them. Spca wanted us to pay (I was trying to help someone get rid of 7-8 cats recently)
Be humane, it isn't the cats fault. Be careful of disease and if you get bit it is a real pain in the ass all the Rabies routine you'll have to go through.

This is pretty much what i said, I would never tell someone to kill there neighbores pet, but from the sounds of this, these are not pets.. Just because its cat, everyone is all PC about it.. What would you be doin if these were foxes? raccoons? a wild animal is a wild animal, no matter how cute and cuddly it seems.. You may not have grown up in the country, and seen just how fast 2 stray cats can turn into 20.. If the animal control will not do anything, and expects him to pay for it, its up to him to decide how to handle it... Shoving a bottle of anitfreeze in the cats mouth is against the law, its intentionaly poisioning them. and is just cruel. But having 20 cats freezin and starving outside in the winter is also cruel... If i had to choose between being poisoned or freezing/starving to death, brake out the antifreeze

Get a .22lr rifle and load it with CB shorts.

It's so quiet, you'd think it had a silencer on it.  It's a lot quieter than any air rifle will be.  All you hear is the hammer drop and the bullet hit the target.

I can eradicate rabbits and woodchucks all day long out to around 40 yards and no one even knows.

F that!  save your gas.  Catch them, put them in cardboard boxes with air holes and leave them on the SPCA's doorstep.  Please do not dump them in the country, then your just giving the problem to someone else.  Really wild cats need to be euthanized.

ETA- You could harrass your elected officials to do something about it.  Call the politicians, explain the problem, and ask them what they're going to do to solve it.  Sometimes this whine ass method works.

Animal control/SPCA might not do anything now but wait until they find out he is poisoning or shooting "housecats." Suddenly that section 8  asshole who can't be bothered to fix his cats and who probably has nothing but freetime on his hands will make it his mission in life to fuck up the life of our otherwise law abiding OP.  Brilliant.

What anitifreeze?? I dont know how it got there officer... They scrached his ride, they are running loose... There is a leash law for dogs, The owner is the only one here that should be worried about the law, not the OP.. This is fuckin nuts, How and when dose an animal have more rights then a person... IF you want to give the animals rights, then they should be held accountable for there actions aswell, So far i see tresspassin, damage to personal property, insest and loitering charges pending.... Lighten up ppl these are stray cats, this isnt your daughters little kitten, They are wild animals.. What happens when one gets rabbies?? bites the OP? or his pets? Did you forget your on AR-15.com, A FIREARM website, Standard answer would be Shoot Shovel Shutup.....

My family had the same problem some time ago ...  There is a neighbor who owns a 4 apartment house directly across the street from us. He is clean, takes care of his house, lawn, property. But his wife is crazy. Literally. She has cats upon cats. She does not neuter or spay them. She feeds them food outdoors in a large bowl and replenishes the bowl all day long. Pretty much any cat in the neighborhood comes to eat there. Strays and non strays alike ..

All night long, especially in the summer all we hear immediately outside of our bedroom windows are cat fights .. and we all know how those sound ..  the cats lay around our property like they own it . they piss on EVERYTHING marking their territory on ANYTHING their piss can reach. My truck tires FREQUENTLY have piss marks on them and are easily determined to be cat piss. I have hung clothes out on drying racks in the morning only to come home to find my clothes were marked by the neighbors stray cats. They shit everywhere also and the shit really stinks if it has rained recently. The bastards don't even bury their shit like most cats do.

Our other neighbor who is older and a little crazy himself started to shoot them with a BB gun. Cops were called, he was either ticketed or arrested and the bb gun was taken and never given back to him ..
That was the last straw. A couple neighbors got together and repeatedly called the city animal control officer and spoke to the mayors office until they mayor himself got sick of the calls. Eventually someone came down, ticketed our neighbor, took most of the cats and warned them not to do this again ..

For almost a year now it has been quiet. No cat fights for the most part, no urine smell or shit smell all over the house ..  but they must have let her keep a few cats cause i see the same ones over and over again around the house and neighborhood ..

If you REALLY want to do yourself a favor, do what others have said. Trap the cats in a live trap, put them in a box with holes in it, and leave it on the local animal shelter door step in the early morning .. its the most human thing to do and if you keep at it, you should be cat free in a couple weeks .. It will require work on your part but will pay off in the end.

The worst part is that just like you, my family also did our part and adopted 2 of the strays. One day a few years ago my mother found a stray had given birth to a single kitten under one of our vehicles. My mother took the mother and son in and made them ours. She had the mother Daisy for several years until one day she went missing last spring . We put up posters but got no calls. Then the son, Sylvester mysteriously was found dead in our basement one night.
My mother said diasy's lips would occasionally turn blue for no good reason. She took her to the vet and the vet said she had some heart issues ... after Daisy went missing, Sylvester began to show symptoms of heart failure also. Eventually he died this past fall.
Point being, my family is in the same boat. I feel your pain. But don't make the cats pay for the owners mistakes. Drop them off at the pound and hope for the best.
Good luck.

If you were my neighbore, and you had an indoor cat that got loose once or twice, I would gladly return said cat, and not cuase an issue.. If you were my neighbore, and had dozens of loose cats causing property damage, and would not respond to my complaints, nor would animal controll, I would take matters into my own hands.. This is the issue here, If theses were pets, that the guy cared about, its a different story. They are not, Did you not read it clearly?? hes at the point were he his ready to shoot them and leave them on the dudes porch... Force feeding me anti-freeze ay?? murder a human over an animal... I cant beleive anyone would get so worked up over a cat that they would murder over it, or threaten someone online.. Luckly for you sir you are not my neighbore, im pretty sure "force feeding" someone anti-freeze is a life threating act, COC violation??

fight fire with fire, go adopt as many cats as you can, strays anything, let them loose over there, eventually he will have to do somthing, or Animal controll will have to step in......
I wonder if the"catapult" got its name back in the midevil times becuse it was the perferd method of dealing with strays, catapult + lake
