| I want to have the windows on my car tinted. Can anyone recommend a good place on Long Island? Thanks |

There's a place on Post Avenue in Westbury about a half mile south of the northern state that does a really good job. I dont know the name of the place though. It's on the right hand side when heading south from the northern. I think it's either a body shop, or next to a body shop.
Oh Yeah, In before all the "Window tints are illegal in NY" guys... |

I have my windows tinted 20% all around (excluding windscreen). I have been pulled over for it one time and have had my windows tinted for about 3-4 years.
Eye doc wrote me a prescription for it anyway in case I do get pulled over, and yes I am aware you need a DMV exemption but I don't want to get it. I just keep the scrip with me at all times. |

I had blacked out windows (like friggin' limo tint) and got pulled over numerous times for it, and always said "I bought it like this" (which was true, even if it wasn't an excuse). One officer put the meter on it, and said I was nowhere near being legal. I never actually got ticketed though. Every time, they just said "You should probably have it removed". I'm glad I don't have that car anymore. I got pulled over WAY too much in it (and I never even sped or actually committed any moving violations). That thing was a cop-magnet. Black civic with blacked out windows and a late teens/early 20's male driver .
In my current car, I've yet to be pulled over in the 3+ years I've been driving it. |

I have been pulled over a few times since I have had my tint and no officer has even mentioned it. There was that one who pulled me over and ticketed me for having the tint when I wasn't even speeding. She also yelled at me because I didn't roll my back window down all the way and inferred I was a drug dealer or was transporting illegal things in my car. I was actually on my way to the bookstore to buy a book.
Other than that I would recommend getting windows tinted. I don't need people/cops looking into my car when I am there or not. |

Quoted: Quoted: Municipalities and NYS are stepping up enforcement of all areas of MV related offenses and writing summons for violations they never really bothered with before. Just a note of caution. NY is going broke...coincidence??? I've never seen so may speed traps/safety/seat belt enforcement details in my area. I told SWMBO AKA Miss Leadfoot she's on her own and I don't want to know about it. |

I know a great great guy who works on Wensdays at the car/stereo shop on underhill blvd in Syosset. The tints last forever, never fade or bubble or any of that, couldn'tbe happier. I really wish they allowed us to legally go darker but I understand the argument, and for a long time I was always sure that if i did it again I would go down into the to dark to be legal teritory, although now older and wiser im happy I don't, its the dumbest reason to constantly get pulled over and guarentee yourself a citation, etc. its just not worth it with the invasion of insane ticket writing situation that has been going on around me lately. by ETA: I know on paper it sounds cheap and ghetto and terrible, but depending on the model and color of your car, at least take a look at a mirror style tint. It would never work on my care, but If you drive a non metallic painted car in a blue, dark red, any non traditional but basic color, the mirror tints look absolutely incredibly, mirror is misleading they kinda have a dull silver or gold tint instead of black making the window look much more blended into the car. Lexus puts mirror tints on all the rear windows of their truck lines, so check that out if youwanna see it. |

Hands down the best tint shop on LI, the VW and Subaru NE regional forums recommend him.....one guy does it and he's an absolute perfectionist. http://www.undergroundtinting.com/index.html |

Just got pulled over the other day. I was pulled over for driving 42 in a 30. No ticket issued and not one word about my window tint. It was a "drive safe have a nice night" Sounds like they were DWI fishing. It was at night form the sounds of it? Which town? |

They don't have to use a light meter even NY DMV Legal opinion on tinted windows |
