I have been searching around for a 1911 for a carry gun. I keeping see great reviews for the Dan Wesson line. I just saw a close up shot of CCO Bobtail and it had Norwich, NY stamped on the side. I never realised they were right up the road from me. Has anyone here visited their shop?

It is a cool tour, they make a great product.

Cool. I didn't know that and I live about 30 minutes away. It amazes me how many firearms manufacturers there are in New  York.

You should also check out Fusion Firearms.  They're in Binghamton.  Fusion is owned and operated by Bob Serva, who used to own Dan Wesson.  He makes beautiful custom 1911's........and I'm lucky enough to own one

Here's a link to the 1911 he built for me.  You won't find better customer service or attention to detail.  Bob is awesome.

A 1911...??? And the angels are singing

One hopes you will be bringing it out to Otisco.

Didn't know they were local also, my parents are down in Binghamton. I can see a lot of likeness in some of the Dan Wesson's from The Fusion's. Now you gave me even more to decide from, Fusion makes some beautiful 1911's, yours' especially.

Bob's 1911's are drop-dead sexy.  I'm not even a 1911 guy, but I'm going to pick one up from him after I leave NY........because having "Binghamton, NY" on the side is pretty awesome (because I live here).

Bob's done a few transfers for me.  Nice guy.

I love the fact that we have local firearm makers here, but jesus H christ I cannot justify almost $3K for a 1911, when my Rock Island has been 100%  for <$500.  Sure, it won't shoot groups that are covered by a quarter at 50 yards or whatever, but I can't even shoot THAT well.

I am waiting too, but because I dont want to pay an additional $200 in NY sales tax on a pistol that is already expensive for me.

Sure did! I have been wanting to look over one of his pistols. My only concern with your 1911 is the rear sights. Are they dehorned? You may need some band-aids with the aggressive pistol manipulations we do if they are sharp.

And cold weather??? Hell. I spent about 4 hours outside yesterday shooting/running my winter rifle league. A few of the Otisco/MDTS crew were out there as well.

OK, we did go in and hug the woodstove between relays while scoring targets. The wind was pretty brisk yesterday.

Damn, I hope not for long. They are owned by CZ-USA. They have a bunch of new 1911's coming out this year. I really wanted to get my hands on one of the new V-Bobs.

[#14]
I've been there a time or two.  It is (and has been for a few years) an outpost for CZ-USA. A kid I went to school with has been the 1911 guy there for a few years. You should see his personal 10mm 1911 It's nothing short of a work of art, and I don't even care for 1911's.

Someone also mentioned Fusion out of Binghamton. I run into these guys (Bob?) Serva and I believe Dale Fiske are the owners names? They work out all of the new pistols at my gun club in the afternoons and sometimes I'm there to see it.  Also beautiful guns.  Nice guys too, very much into their work. I happened to have their card stuck to the fridge, the number is 607-204-0254.

And a quick plug to you local guys, if you need a place to shoot, the Greene Rod and Gun Club is cheap ($30/year) and its a nice club that we take a lot of pride in.  Both the guys from Fusion and Scott VanGiesen (the smith from DW/CZ-USA) shoot there.  Pistol ranges, Trap fields, Skeet, 300yd rifle range and a cool group of guys to boot.  Half the time you don't get to shoot because you end up standing around bullshitting for an hour instead. Check out the website.

I am currently saving for a Fusion 1911 I am not a high dollar gun guy and it might take me two or three years to save the total.  Compared to the full custom guns out there Fusion seems like a hell of a good deal.

Fusion has a pretty solid rep and have some of the best prices on custom 1911's I've been tossing around the idea of buying one of their kits and do a build.

Are you going to get the Ion Bond coating? It's supposed to be the toughest coating out there

Soon as I saw the pic you posted, I had to check out Fusion's page. I fell in love looking at Bob's guns. I then started reading the reviews on Bob and not one person had anything bad to say about Bob or his 1911's. The wait is going to suck, i'll just have to buy something else in the mean while to carry.

I take my AR's and AK's to the Greene R&G club all the time.  Yes you get weirdo looks.  Yes there are lots of stodgy old people. Yes you have every right to ignore them like I do.  The only thing they really request is that you keep the rapid fire to a minimum, and ZERO bump-firing.  Makes the neighbors nervous.

The way I look at it is that when those stodgy old people decide they need to defend themselves or their country and the only thing they own is a Parazzi bird gun with a 28" barrel, thanks for nothing, stodgy old stinky man!

I see all kinds of stuff there and I don't give anyone any flack, so I guess you can hang out with me

If it isn't a double barrel clay pigeon shotgun, or a 1911, it gets weird looks.  The average age of these guys is like 65.  We ARE the new generation though, so ashes to ashes, let's shoot some assault style weapons with arm things that go up!  PM me if you want to check it out (when it warms up a bit or at least de-snows, I can't get in right now, no 4wd ).

Is the pistol range indoors by any chance?  I have thought about joining the Greene club because a bunch of guys I work with are members.
I mostly shoot on state land so I don't get the weird looks and can shoot what I want and as fast as I want.

A friend of mine from another forum brought his S-12 to the range to shoot come clays.

Right as he brought it up, the RO came running over and yelling "Hey!!  You can't use a rifle to shoot clays!!!".

"Technically" it isn't ok, but in the name of marketing our club to new eyes and potential new members, I'd be pleased to have you tag a long, and bring whatever you want to shoot.  As far as shooting against the Parrazzi/Benelli guys in skeet, they'd probably get a kick out of it if you brought your S-12.  In fact, maybe I'll bring mine too

And to whomever it was that wanted to know about the pistol range: No, it is outdoors, and there are 3 or 4 of them, one doubles as a 100 yard rifle range and the other three are probably about 75 yards and mostly just used for cowboy action on Sunday mornings, but if you want your own range during the week, chances are they're open and all yours (if you're a member of course).  HOWEVER...I just talked to the club secretary a few days ago and he said that they are waiting on a grant from the Friends of the NRA, and when/if it comes through, an INDOOR PISTOL RANGE is in the future!  Pretty excited about that myself :)

So yeah, get in touch with me.  Anyone who wants to take a trip up can PM me with your # and I'll get back to you.  Thank god its almost March already, we might see some decent days!  I've been itchin' big time too.
