| Turned in my pistol permit app. to Chenango county, had to go get a new one since I lost the last one from sitting around so long. Holy finger prints, had to do ink since my county does not do it electronically. Says it can take 6 months to a year, but I talked to a guy this summer that said his took 3 months. Hoping to get my ccw as I deal with a lot of cash business, but doubtful in my county. If not there is a course starting next spring that will allow you to ccw. Once I get my license what are some other states I should I apply to? |
| NY1911, did you get your permit recently? 6 weeks must be a new record! I've had a bunch of friends get theirs in the last year or 2 and none of them went before Judge Sullivan. They also didn't ask for a ccw though. Did you get your ccw and how did you plead your case if you don't mind me asking? The course next year for ccw is $250 and I would rather not pay for that. |

I got mine in Sept in Chenango county. It took 8 weeks to be approved. My wife on the other hand is still waiting (about 4 months now)and we turned them in on the same day. Your permit will be restricted. You will have to take a safety class within one year of issue, or you can take an advanced conceal carry class to have you restrictions removed. There is no other way to get you ccw without taking the class. Start saving that $250 while you wait for your permit.
I did not have to meet with Sullivan. |

TIA Once my wife gets her permit we are taking the "NY State 'Restricted' Permit Upgrade Training" class through Rochester Defense. I have heard good things about them. Go to Rochester Defense The course is about half way down the page. |
| There is a new course to remove the restrictions right here in Chenango at the Iroquois Sportsman Club Iroquois link. I do run a family business, so i'm hoping that might help my case. |

I did not have to meet with Sullivan. With all due respect, not every permit is issued with restrictions. My brother was issued an unrestricted permit by Judge Sullivan and he was not required to take an "advanced conceal carry class". He did take the required one day safety class for ~$35. The last time I looked at the application paperwork, the cover letter states something to the effect, permits would be issued with restrictions unless cause could be shown otherwise. If someone submits the application and does not ask to meet with the judge and explain their reasons for wanting an unrestricted permit then they are accepting the default, restricted permit. Unrestricted permits may not be the norm, but are possible to get. Last year I helped a friend get his restrictions lifted by writing a letter to the judge explaining his reasons, background, and ties to the community through owning a small business. He has a military background and it was Broome County, however. IMHO, It doesn't hurt to ask and a carefully worded letter could save you $250. |
